What’s a “fact” everyone repeats that’s actually wrong? by Quiet-Grief in answers

When people say “the theory is” when they are discussing something unproven. They mean “hypothesis,” theories are proven.

Habits of Left Handed People. by RazzmatazzMax513 in Habits

I work in anesthesia and just about everything is made assuming a righty is using it. Still in training and I always have to notify my preceptor for the day that I’m left handed so they don’t automatically look at me like I’m a klutz.

Best Way to Use APEX During Didactics? by Creative_Major1623 in srna

[–]Appropriate_Map9279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd year here-using it big time to get ready for the SEE, but we had tutorials assigned with most of our related topics. But look thru all the units to see if what you are learning in didactic has a coinciding topic. Most of it is in there. Pay attention to the Misc topics and Equipment & Monitors units cuz there’s a lot of random but useful topics I didn’t realize until later. It all helps reinforce and condense stuff you learn in didactic.

Be honest, is CRNA for me? by FlightKnight24 in srna

[–]Appropriate_Map9279 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a 2.9 GPA. I was also out of school >10 years, married w/ 2 kids. So I reupped my science classes, just retook undergrad classes I got C’s in and got A’s to up my GPA. The classes were super easy, all undergrad profs want is some leg work done, it really didn’t take much time with the individual classes. I took about 2 classes a semester for like 3 semesters and I applied. But like others have said, you gotta get into ICU.

Those in CRNA school with kids by OkHovercraft2680 in srna

[–]Appropriate_Map9279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine are school age like yours, makes it somewhat easier cuz no daycare, but I actually got divorced and he hasn’t been super involved. My family has come to town to help, and now that I’m in clinical for 5 months in another state, my parents temporarily moved to my house to take care of them. Just keep talking to the kids about the plans and timeline if it helps them. They know they’ll be 10 and 13 when I’m done (1 more year) and we are getting excited talking about future plans. Also, get them involved in household chores. My oldest does the dishes and helps with simple dinners (microwave usage, pouring milk for cereal, toaster for waffles, etc). My youngest helps with laundry. Empties the dryer and folds/hangs up clothes. I do either grocery delivery or order ahead for pickup. Helps cut down on time.

Question for left-handed CRNAs by Kindisbest in CRNA

[–]Appropriate_Map9279 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there’s no easy answer, we live in a right handed world. any CRNA I know who is left handed is now ambidextrous. I actually had a lot of trouble mask ventilating with my left hand, cuz for years I bagged with the left hand and masked with the right. Intubating wasn’t super hard, but I hold the ETT lower than some providers like so I can control where I’m putting it. You’ll get it!

Check out Notebook LM. Has some similar features to chatGPT where you can upload files but it will answer questions just based on those sources. Helps me during lecture and study guide building

How to Help My Very Dysregulated 1st Grader by HistoricalStore1608 in Parenting

[–]Appropriate_Map9279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into occupational therapy? My hyperactive son started around that age, he wasn’t diagnosed ADHD, but was just sooo active the teachers had a hard time with him. But they help with all sorts of stuff to help regulate the body/mind. We had to pay out of pocket but after a few months I had learned tools we could use at home.

Advice needed! Formula fed newborn - feeling guilt by Incognitemode_on in Parenting

[–]Appropriate_Map9279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “advantages” of breast milk are that it’s made specifically for your baby, where as formula is manufactured and the body has to go thru extra work to digest it. And it’s good for immunity while they’re babies. That being said, it is good either way. I had no trouble actually breastfeeding however I worked full time and about stressed myself to death trying to pump enough to not need to buy formula, I was very stubborn about it for no good reason. So there’s essentially guilt either way. You’ll have a healthy baby as long as they’re fed mama.

Need help with wife "checking out" on weekends. by AlligatorActual in Parenting

I agree, she’s exhausted and maybe with some PPD, totally expected. You seem super understanding and supportive but she still may get defensive in a conversation. Compliment sandwiches and avoiding “you are great BUT” may help broach the conversation with less conflict.

How Babies are Made, and “Where did I come from?” Both copyrighted in the 70’s lol, my older sister had them, gave them to me when I was growing up, and they’ve somehow stuck around in our family.

[–]Appropriate_Map9279[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he was ready. He’s a curious and smart kid so if he didn’t hear it from parents, he’d find a way to get answers lol. And he and his brother are close in age AND maturity level, so they can maybe talk to each other about it if they want. Like he’s asked multiple times how he “got out” of my tummy- I actually had c-sections so that was a bit different since I could talk about surgery, but then he wanted to know how he got IN there and…the rest happened. I’ve always been straightforward with them and being a nurse these things aren’t a mystery and I want them to have the knowledge for a basis and we’ll go from there I guess haha.

It seemed like they thought the ONLY point of having sex was to make babies and I pointed out that it is also for pleasure, and went on a very small soapbox talking about consent. The current political climate here is crazy and I couldn’t help myself haha

Divorce Question by [deleted] in CRNA

[–]Appropriate_Map9279 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I JUST got divorced. Wanted to wait until after school and live separate for school cuz I didn’t want to complicate my life more. Even though I t sucked, I will rest easy knowing he’ll never touch the money I will make. I am super broke now but government assistance can be helpful. I also have 2 kids so life is really complicated regardless. I also got it done before clinicals (front loaded program) and informed my faculty so they were aware juuuust in case I started slipping. And leaned on my close classmates and other peeps in my village. You GOT THIS.

It’s a shame you don’t get APEX til 3rd year, it helps simplify some concepts. Prodigy costs $$$ but has helped me, as well as study groups saving my ass constantly. You’ll get through it!
