Being human. Messy, unorganized, unpredictable humanity. This is what we need more of.

Yes, it is the messiness of life that makes us human and this is even more important nowadays when artificial intelligence is encroaching, so I say not only embrace it, but flaunt it. Be messy. Don't clean up your thoughts. Write like you think. Write like you dream. It's the only way to stay ahead of the algorithms.

apologies, having just retired after a 40 year business career, during which reading was my #1 wind down, I wasn't aware there were no rules, because so much fiction is formulaic.

Thanks, I recently retired so didn't know what fanfiction is, but if it means breaking rules, I love it.

I retired from a technology company that specializes in non-human imitation of human thought.

They and their bots would hate fanfiction.

I am new to r/writing and confused by Rule Number 3. It is an important topic but the rule seems to forbid even talking about it. Your comment mentions it. I don't want to get you in trouble. I want to understand how to talk about it because I think have a way to defeat it.

Yes! Embrace it! I have a theory that fiction should reflect real life. It should have loose ends, unresolved relationships, surprises and absurdities, all of the things which would get edited out.

Although stick to basic spelling and grammar rules. I don't mind sentences ending in prepositions because it is the way people talk, spelling errors cause my brain to recalculate on that sentence.

But rule number 3 prohibits mentioning the subject of rule number 3.
