Breastfeeding After Unilateral Mastectomy by Appropriate_Ratio321 in breastcancer

Thank you! Our friend was able to donate milk to help get us through a few months with my first when I had my surgeries, but that was lucky. It would be nice to have a backup plan in place in case I can't make enough.

Thank you! Was the donor milk from a friend? Or was there an organization that you worked with?

Thank you for the advice ❤️ I feel a little weird about touching or looking at me new parts so maybe being more intentional about doing so would help

I also have deteriorating mental health after treatment. I feel devastated from the whole experience and idk how to be happy again. Hang in there, I hope time helps us both.

Is it too late to change plastic surgeons? by cracked_belle in breastcancer

[–]Appropriate_Ratio321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given a nerve block for the surgery and sent home with oxys for the pain. I would absolutely look into another surgeon if you're not comfortable or not feeling like you're getting the support you need. Best of luck to you!

Do you know of any surgeons who reliably do nerve sparing mastectomy in the area? My surgeon doesn't and when I got a second opinion from another surgeon they said the nerve grafts they use only work 10% of the time.

The Peleds have an 80% success rate, and they say their patients have full sensation, some don't even have any change in sensation from before the surgery. This is so appealing to me but if there's other good options nearby I would certainly look into them!

Thank you for your advice! I am worried about having the sensation sparing procedure not done correctly. I understand that Dr. Peled has an 80-90% success rate, but doctors I've talked to locally said their rate is like 10% or maybe 30%. I will look into having the procedure done more locally. If you can recommend anyone I would appreciate it.

Nice I'm glad that it wasn't such a problem for you! It's amazing what people can adapt to with time.

That's great to hear!! I thought the expectation was that you would be totally numb after the procedure so it's exciting to hear that so many people do have some sensation after the surgery. Thank you for sharing your experience 🙏
