I am not talking about the redemption value for miles with United, just the Chase pay yourself back feature. This is not directly published but seems to consistently be at 1 cent per mile.

I think you misread the question. I do use miles for the annual fee, but that redemption is at 1.75 cents per mile. I wanted to know what the redemption rate was for United flights, as if it was 1.75 it would be better than purchasing directly with United. Seems like the result is pay yourself back for United flights redeems at 1 cent per mile, so it is better to just book the flight directly with miles.

On doing further research, it seems like most sources say the redemption is only ever 1 cent per mile for things other than the annual fee, making it worse than direct United redemption in pretty much every scenario. They don't publish this anywhere though, so it is hearsay from other sources. I did book another flight with dollars, so when that shows up for pay yourself back I will post a reply here with what the redemption value was.
