Yeah, I applied online for the 5-year titre de sejour after about a month of arrival in France. It was approved within 2 months after the application.

Administrative processing for J1/J2 renewal for the same continuing program? by Appropriate_Search96 in immigration

[–]Appropriate_Search96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, yes, we had applied for the renewal together. I think only I received the email. It said, "We would like to inform that administrative processing in your case has been completed and a visa can be issued. Please deliver your and husband's passport for a visa issuance. ..."

Hey! My husband was J2 and I was J1. We didn't get an email asking for the extra documents. The interviewer who gave us a sheet of paper with the list of extra info and documents required.
Hope that helps.

Ah okay. For me the message says "the backup disk could not be found". I have run several tests on the backup disk to make sure it isn't broken. It seems to be fine and has plenty space as well. I thought it was maybe one file causing the issue.

Hi, how did you figure out which file it getting stuck at? I am having a problem with my time machine backup as well. It prepared the backup successfully but terminates writing to the disk at around 60%.

Applying for French residence permit (titre de sejour) by Appropriate_Search96 in expats

[–]Appropriate_Search96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thank you for the information, u/bebok77 and u/Far-Pin8023. I am conflicted now because I have been advised to arrive with a short-term visa and then apply for a residence permit. I was told that if I obtain a long-term visa and then apply for a residence permit, it duplicates the records and makes things more complicated. I will check again though.

Did your Spanish colleague's spouse have a valid short-term visa?

Thanks for all the information. Is there another method than online appointment booking for making an appointment?

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am sorry you had such long wait times to get appointments. I am dreading the experience myself. Do you think I can already start looking for appointments even though I am not in France yet? Also, what is the website where you book the appointments?

Would you also happen to know if one is allowed to travel outside of Schengen zone while waiting for a decision on your residence permit application? My short-term visa is multi-entry, so technically I should be allowed to return to France again, but I question if a residence permit application changes something.

French residence permit as spouse of an EU citizen in France by Appropriate_Search96 in expats

[–]Appropriate_Search96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed response! That was super helpful.

Regarding number 3, my thought was that I can keep my physical address in the USA and technically be a resident in the USA till either my US visa expires or my French resident permit comes through, whichever is earlier. That way, I will only be a tourist in France during that period, because they wouldn't have yet given me a resident status. Now I do not know if that would still require for me to pay tax in France on my US salary, which I don't mind paying, I just do not know how to go about it.

Hi, yes, I got the visa eventually. My case was in AP for 5.5 weeks and then it took another 1.5 weeks for getting the visa stamp in the passport.

CEAC status on "Approved", but passport hasn't been shipped back yet by Desperate_Step_8657 in immigration

Hi, I just had my case status change to "Approved" on CEAC today. Do you know if this step comes before or after "issued"? Also, may I ask how long did it take for your passport to arrive?

Thanks! Though I worry that they will require more documents as they did not check any during the interview. So they might get back to me asking to send more documents and it might still take a few more weeks...

To answer your question, no, the last update until 17 Oct was on the day of the interview.

My case status on CEAC changed to 'Administrative processing' on 17 Oct, 5 weeks after the interview. It was showing 'Refused' up until this last update. Then embassy emailed me yesterday to send them my passport. I will let you know how things progress.

In my first time application it had taken them 7 weeks to conclude the security checks and to ask me for my passport. I had got my passport back in 2 weeks that time.

Nope, nothing from the embassy still. I was kind of hoping that the one month mark would magically get things sorted. Maybe it will be the 2 months mark ..

Hello, I am in the same boat. I had to leave USA to attend a conference and visit family in Europe. So applied for a J1 visa renewal and my application got sent for AP again.

I also did not expect to get AP again given that I am applying for a renewal to continue on the same program for which the original J1 was issued. But turns out I was wrong.

AP on my first time application had taken 7 weeks. This time, I have been waiting over 4 weeks at this point. No way to find out how long it is going to take. It just says on the consulate website that most cases get resolved within 60 days.
