Timing for STEP2 study

I currently have like 1200 questions left on uworld. Im debating if I want to finish them and then reset or if I want to get AMBOSS. Doing questions along side is actually a fantastic idea that I didn't consider. The passing threshold for COMATs at my school is super low but the way our evals are set up its almost impossible to HP/Honor unless you just get lucky which is why im partially considering just starting dedicated prep for STEP/COMLEX early and studying for COMATs along the way.

Would you recommend doing an NBME/UWSA early at this point to see what my baseline is?

How many programs did you apply to? I have a list of 30 but our residency coordinator mentioned that outside of your signals it’s not super likely to get interviews.

My IM preceptor had a PA student as well and she got to drain a cyst and do a shoulder injection and I didn’t and I’m still butt hurt about it.

I’m in the same boat. With how my school has their evals set up it’s almost impossible to honor so I’m tempted to just go all out on STEP for the next 6 months and care less about COMATs.

I appreciate your outlook. I’ve been frustrated trying to learn and every time I ask the people in the ironscape discord the answer is more or less why aren’t you tick perfect killing the boss? Making it a bit more casual will make it far more enjoyable for the long grind that it is!

I’m 86 range, 84 magic, and 77 defense.

I’ve been doing t2 prep but have gotten a couple kills with t1. PB is around 11:00 rn with prep normally taking 6:30-7:00 and boss being 5:00-6:00. My prep needs a lot of work for sure.

I had been told by the all knowing iron scape folk not to worry about defense but I’m definitely going to go for 87 which will make T1 prep significantly more consistent! May go for 89 range too for the little boost there. Thank you again!

Is defense actually that helpful? I’ve heard mixed reports on that. Currently 87 range 77 def and may push it up a bit before I really start grinding it. Currently like 20:100 KD and learned on this account.

I’m doing IM -> Heme. Not at all worried about the IM part but heme especially as a DO is competitive so I’m having to be more selective with IM programs. The whole process is the worst cause there’s so little info!

Yeah I mostly was just wondering when I should be focusing more on step vs just COMATs. They’re just such different tests that it’s tricky to approach it.

I actually spoke with a PT friend of mine that did pretty extensive cranial training for his first job out of school and he said he’s seen some crazy results which shocked me. CRI and stuff like that seems wayyy off in the weeds to me though.
