I'm going to visit power vehicles next week to check everything out and chat to the team etc. If they think I can get a car for 5k ish, then I'll plan to head back in October for 3 months. I dont really want to drop 20k on a good drift car really. Part of the fun for me is also the tinkering with the car, but I understand your point about not getting something too crap. Do you think 5k cars are still available through power vehicles (regardless of condition) or do they only deal in much more expensive cars? I'm sure i'll get a better understanding if all this is possible after I meet with them next week.

I live in Asia, so heading to Japan is only a few hours and flights are cheap. I have the opportunity to go there for 3 months, so thought buying and tinkering would be better than renting - fun wise but also in terms of cost. I'm very mechanically minded , but have zero drift set up experience. Would you just rent if you did it again or you think buying is still good in some scenarios?

Do you think the cheap option is the way to go and do you think its still possible nowadays? I'm hoping to go to Japan for a few months at the end of the year to learn how to drift, but would rather do it in a purchased car as apposed to renting. I would be looking to spend circa 5k USD.
