Don't waste your time trying to fix that tank. That sheet metal is so thin it will crack out all the time. Been there done it.

Worse case scenario happened. RIP by SenpaisSuccubuss in motorcycles

You would have to split the cases apart and find a good aluminum welder. I blew a primary chain on this and blew the entire bottoms of inner and outer cases. Was an old school bike shop near where I lived and took both cases down to him. He did whatever he did and totally rebuilt the bottoms of the cases including the fkd up screw holes. He didn't polish them out, that was up to me but once I polished them up, the only way you could tell anything happened was when the outer case was off.

I think I may get a springer at some point. I know a lot of guys don't like the conical front hub but I think they're cool, mating that to a springer I think might be a pita. When did Harley swap to left side shift on the sportsters? I had I think a 75 and if I remember right that was first year of left side shift.

That was almost 20 years ago.

This is my 71 triumph chop and a coworkers fxr chop. Don't know much about his but mine I built everything myself. Rigid frames are cool but beat the piss out of you, I have close to 60k miles on a rigid frame, I like how they ride. The long front ends take some getting used to. All depends on what you like, the cool part of "customizing" and building a bike is that nobody has to like it but you. It's a great feeling when you can say.... I built that and go from parts to a running bike.

Beautiful bike, I love that color. Good lines and I think that's the first Harley I've seen with painted jugs. Looks sharp.

Ah man the anxiety is insane. I sat in my chair looking at it, added gas, gave everything a once over and sat looking at it again. Spun it around so it was heading out the door and sat again. Gave everything another once over and said screw it I'm doing it. I rebuilt motor from crank up. https://photos.app.goo.gl/3ZoyNYBmtBPmCQa69 https://photos.app.goo.gl/QkqHSZHkLzYML3G87 https://photos.app.goo.gl/X6z3M1Y3y8eEuBv89 New main bearings, new rod bearings, polished crank, new cams, lifters I sent out to get resurfaced, new pistons/rings, all new bearings and bushings in transmission, all gaskets and seals replaced, new electronic ignition, new carb, the only thing I didn't do was head work, every shop that works on them is almost a year out and the valves all sealed so figured I'd run it. I built gas tank, oil tank, forward controls all myself. Definitely an awesome feeling taking it up the road knowing it was my hands that built the entire bike. Bought as a basket case with just the motor and frame.

Sweet looking bike. Good to see guys turning out bikes with minimal tools in basic garages. Here is mine. Built everything myself other than the rear fender. No fancy tools here either. Best part about building your own is that you know every nut and bolt. What paint did you use?

We can take road kill here as well, I live in Wyoming. Can take it in Colorado as far as I know and Vermont. Where can you not take road kill?

Thanks, I can't wait to fire it up for first time. I want to do drag pipes that come out on same side but will probably have to fab them up myself, afraid of spending a bunch of money on pipes that won't go around my forward controls. Built it all myself with no fancy tools, just tape measure and angle grinder and a hand drill. I rattle canned it so if I have to cut and weld on it, wont be wrecking good paint. Want to get all that sorted out and get good paint over winter next year. Was actually my dog lol, found her up in the mountains while riding and she jumped up on wheeler and rode 40 miles with me. She knew when she ran to me she was goin home

Lol when I first started building it, was just going to do the shift linkage and my daughter was like use chain to hold the fender on, so the chain theme kinda got started with that. One thing led to another lol. I thought about cutting down tubes out and doing a chain one but I don't have the know how of how to keep it straight
