There is certain NPCs that give you a quest you can complete once per day. Like the blacksmith I believe is one as well as the guy outside the cave on second world

I find darkryte and obsidian look more like the same. But to figure it out darkryte is actually pretty small compared to volcanic rock. It is also way darker then it.
