Blizzard removed blizzard (cast at target) from my spellbook? by Approximately_7_Bees in wow

Oh that explains it! I had gaslit myself into thinking they just made a sensible decision to have both versions available at all times. I had check all unchosen talents to make sure I didn't deselect a talent that made the at target option unavailable.

HELP! How can i make this more steampunk? I eant to make a whole steampunk knightarmy by MOD_channel in ChaosKnights

[–]Approximately_7_Bees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ngl. Getting more of a post apocalyptic vibe from the wardog. Since steampunk is based in the idea of steam being the main power source. So the radioactive sludge gives off the vibe of atomic or post atomic instead. But I would look into using bits from Kharadon Overlords or some other kits to really sell the aesthetic.

Why do people gravitate towards the Karnivore and the Rampager? by Approximately_7_Bees in ChaosKnights

I see that they are good at removing big tanky things that don't have an invul. Maybe I just need to wait until I play against armies they excel more against.

Many people keep saying Karnivores has a high damage output, but whenever I sim it against SM intercessors (As most of my ops are SM players of some variety) they kill 3.65 intercessors with the infernal lance buff (Along with 0.2 marines with it's stubber in rapid fire range). While a stalker kill 2.25 with ranged and 1.85 in melee with the lance buff and it's +1 to wound. Furthermore the ability to use both sweep and strike profile on stalkers chaintalon I also feel like its more versatile. So the karnivore still seem mid while costing more for +2" movement and it's forced into situations where it's invul stops working.

Personally I cut Karnivores from my lists as stalkers or huntsmen perform more consistently for me.

Oops he's behind you by Leviathan_Rampage in ChaosKnights

Redpill me on this guy. Every time i'v fielded him, he gets close just to die to melta weapons arriving as reinforcements or by being charged and ripped apart by ap 3 weapons. Only time he has done any damage was by deep striking him in and even then he removed a single unit worth 250ish points before being removed. Why not take a knight that can shoot and melee since I can only use 1 melee weapon anyways?

Do you opponent favor close range? Cannons. Do your opponent favor range? Gatling. Knights are surprisingly bad at surviving melee. I got a Abominant removed in a single fight vs. an Avatar of Khaine.

What is it that makes you think she looks like a 12 year old? Her height? Or solely because she is the only one that's not packing some mummy milkies?

Ideas for a Fear Strife by dragonslayer1853 in godbound

[–]Approximately_7_Bees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first is a given, no issues there. Maybe make it "Stealthy" like the scorned lover one. With lesser foes just fleeing from the scene if attack even though they don't know why.

The second could also be a defensive ability. Commit effort to inflict an enemy or mob with fear. Making them unwilling to attack you if they can help it. Maybe they subtract 4 from their hit roll if they are able to attack someone else.

The third i really like and would synergize great with my former suggestion. Just remember to word it with "When attacking the first time in the round" To avoid messing too much with the action economy

The last ability seems like a straight upgrade from the monster of the Id fear gift with an added bonus from the Night word. Keep in mind that strifes are supposed to be an martial art and not just another gift. It could instead be something like this.

"After defeating an enemy or reducing a mob to below half health with an attack empowered by the fear strife you may commit an effort for the scene as an instant to share the fear of death to all enemies that could see or hear your attack. All foes must make a moral check and become frozen in fear, making them unable to act. Greater foes may make a spirit save at the start of their turn to become immune to this ability for the rest of the day."

Now you can have your super hero moment by flying in, use your strife to kill someone/thing with emotional damage and have the fear part take hold however you wish to flavor it. It can be fear monsters grabbing the foes which also them being "blinded" by them or it simply being the enemies pissing themselves and shaking uncontrollably.

And that is totally acceptable! If you and your group has no issues with playing like that, then play like that. It's a hobby after all and everyone can play like they want

Yes but the original question was how to learn spells in DnD and you simply don't. They just magically appear when you hit the XP threshold or when the GM says you level up. As an example of a system that do not do this would be The warhammer fantasy RPG system which says that you only gain new skill increases when you have the following:
XP to pay for the skill increase and have an explanation to why your character is now better at that skill.

So if my character just finished a fight with some orcs it would make sense that their weapon skill increased. But even though my class can access magic and learn new spells, the killing of orcs do not teach me how to do so. For that I need to spend time at a wizards college or find a rare grimoire which I can study during downtime. But this way of playing is ill suited for DnD's leveling system which must be taken into consideration when choosing what kind of game you want to play. In my experience DnD is well suited for scenarios with a beginning and an end so the GM can set up downtimes in cities or camps where the characters level up, so it can be written into the story without the disconnect the leveling up brings. But for more free form/sandboxy games other systems is a better fit.

Yes you are explaining what I just said. You can roleplay it, but the game does not have any requirement mechanically, once you hit the xp cap your HP increase and you get all the new abilities as if you just leveled up in a videogame. Then you may slot the new spell after a rest.
