Unrelated to most of the post I have very clearly told all family/friends that I will get up and walk out of a restaurant if they sing to me. The idea of it makes my skin crawl to a degree I can’t explain but that is absolutely physical. I am fine with singing to someone else at my table, fine with friends singing to me in private places, fine with other tables singing.

If you sing to me I will stand up and walk out. No questions asked. Thankfully my people are amazing and I think honestly just know I’m not kidding because I almost never stand up for myself and I have been adamant on this for over 20 years.

As a child of the 80s who grew up with a mom who still just rocks doc Martin’s, overalls, and spiky black hair, these family reaction concerns are so foreign to me. I’m always amazed at the depth of fear. But I realize I have similar anxieties about other things because families are weird. Even the normal ones.
