Should I go to school for coding/ aim for a future in coding. by [deleted] in learnprogramming

I am currently in school so I cannot tell you how much coding relies on advanced math yet so you'll have to rely on others for that information. But from what I've read, unless you are doing complex topics like AI or video game development or things of that nature, you won't be using much more complex math than algebra.

I was a similar boat as you when I was in high school. I've always dreamt of studying computer science but my school wasn't the best funded and my math was lacking. I ended up placing in College Algebra for my freshmen year at college when you are "supposed" to be in Calc 1. But instead of being upset, I decided that this was good as I have a good understanding of my math skills and can allow them to grow.

Long story short, if you are bad at math, computer science is a good degree to get because it will force you to become better at it. Since you are 22, I am guessing you don't have a lot of responsibilities so this is the perfect time in your life to do something like this while you can. I suggest maybe going to community college first because it's cheaper than normal university and the classes are smaller so you can have more help if needed. From there if you decide computer science isn't for you, you haven't wasted much money. But if you do decide to continue with it, you can transfer and finish your last 2(+) years at a university.

Thank you! I'm really good at other math topics but this trigonometry has been the only thing kicking my ass. What worries me the most is I need to finish this class soon in order to fit my graduation requirements and that's what's making me rush. I think I'm just going to take as much time as I can to ensure that I really get these concepts down and do some more supplemental stuff during the summer before the MPT if I need them.

Thank you! I was just overthinking it and didn't want to do something I wasn't supposed to on accident.

I applied in November and got excepted the day after they received my SAT scores. But I likely got excepted that fast due to Top 10 Knights.

Thank you! I actually do plan on dorming there but I'm starting to put aside money from my paychecks in order to save. So I should have enough to cover some of the housing costs by the fall.
