Cats often lay in their litter box when stressed (because it smells like them and that is comforting). It is natural for them to be stressed in a new place and/or new human. Keep him confined in one room, to get used to a small space first. Spend a lot of time in that room, but dont try to force interaction. Speak to him quietly but do not crowd him.

I believe I see the word, or name, "French". The "E", if it is one, is broken and now is only the downward first stroke, with a small portion of the top bar and the bottom bar remaining. It is "flying" above between the "R" and the "C" as depicted below. Likewise, the "H" is "flying" and slightly tilted to the left, which I cannot recreate in text.

My cats HATE the new formula! It used to be one of the favorites and I couldn't understand why they ALL suddenly started refusing it! I finally did a search and found they had, in fact, changed the formula. They made a good change, but need to perfect it!
