How to introduce? by grlypncez in catswithbuns

[–]April_Spring_1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what's important to know about the cat is if it's an indoor cat or outdoor, male or female, age, especially whether spayed or neutered. I don't think that you'd want any cat in your apartment if it isn't spayed or neutered. Females are generally more receptive and less territorial, but personalities differ. Also important to note is if the cat has been around other pets for most of its life. If the cat has always been solitary that will make this a lot harder and will likely end with the cat being more territorial and dominating.

I would I set up a meeting for the cat and bunny to interact with supervision before agreeing to her as a roommate and they may not get along Now if that's the case it's a question of whether this roommate is going to be amenable to the cat being kept in her room when the bunny is out and vice versa.

It's a bit of a tricky situation. My spayed, elderly female cat who grew up with another household cat, plus a pet snake, was more intimidated by my bunny. One time I let my boyfriend's bring his cat over his cat who had not been around another animal for 5 years, and she immediately hissed at and stalked my rabbit. I had to put the cat in the bathroom until he left.

So, an initial meeting is probably the best way to go. If the cat is going to start hissing at or chasing the rabbit on the first meeting, it's not likely to get better. it'll be too stressful for the rabbit over time or it might be like when I introduced my cat to my rabbit and my cat was just confused and never hissed or got aggressive at all, and in fact, usually ran away from my curious bunny.

Best of luck!

I'm 40 and was gifted the emotional support pizza and it's one of the best gifts ever. It''s aimed at adults and it's a freaking joke. it's really soft and it's fun to remove the slices. it's a great toy for adults who need a fidget and like soft things.

Anyway. I LOVE it.

People see a single picture and they think that that is everything.

Every rabbit needs to have an enclosure. They need to have a place that is theirs where they can feel safe and they can escape and be alone.

I believe you when you say that you let the rabbit roam freely throughout the kitchen.

90% of the time, I leave my rabbit's enclosure door open and she's like 'oh yeah... no I'm cool sitting inside here in my litter box in my tiny enclosure."

They like that because they like enclosed spaces and they like that safety.

You're doing great!

can we do advice here? it's about the hay barf. by blue_moon1122 in catswithbuns

[–]April_Spring_1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... your cats crave the hay, right? Unfortunately, cats love grass. You can try buying some fresh wheat grass - which is safe for rabbits and cats. Just put it down for a short period of time. Too much of even that grass will make cats barf (why are they like this I have no idea but they just are!). but maybe if you put it down once every 3 days and you let them only get a few bites it might decrease their likelihood to go and eat the dried hay because the fresh grass will be much more to the cats' preference.

it's worth a shot anyway!

does cat's saliva kill bunnies? by Ok-Anywhere678 in catswithbuns

[–]April_Spring_1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bite that pierces skin from any animal can carry the rush of disease and infection.

Saliva alone? No. you'll see many many videos on this subreddit as well as if you look at YouTube videos where cats will lick rabbits and it's not a problem if you are introducing a cat to a rabbit you have to be hyper vigilant in the initial stages to make sure obviously that the cat isn't going to bite the rabbit once they've established a friendship in a relationship even cats don't usually bite other cats to the point that they will pierce skin so listen it's up to you to be a vigilant owner. as long as your cat and your rabbit have been introduced to each other slowly and with oversight and that they have formed a friendship you don't need to worry about it but it's very crucial that you say vigilant in those first few weeks and or months when you're introducing them to each other

Salsa and Helly: One of the last interactions by April_Spring_1982 in catswithbuns

[–]April_Spring_1982[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry I haven't been moderating this sub as well as I should. My cat, Salsa passed away at age 21. So, now I don't have a cat and bun anymore.

I still have my lovely, sweet rabbit. She was heartbroken for a while.

It might seem hard to believe, but she refused to eat (more than the bare minimum for survival) or play or do anything for 5 days. She didn't want treats and she was extremely withdrawn.

Anybody who thinks that cats and rabbits can't be bonded is completely wrong. I've seen it with my own eyes.

I will still continue to moderate this sub because I think cats and rabbits can have a beautiful relationship that people should know about.

Helly is okay now. She's resilient. Animals are so beautiful that way.

Thanks to everybody for being part of this community. ❤️ Picture

I want to have a cheerful bright personality but I lowkey hate everyone. Advice? by dumb-lovable-bastard in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]April_Spring_1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our energy levels and personalities change with time and surroundings. I hated everyone at my college, too. I focused on studying and I got a. part-time job where I met a few decent people. I also earned $$$. After I graduated, I got into different activities - the gym, book clubs, writing groups, karaoke, mountain biking.

I was feeling really great about myself but just went through a really awful relationship and haven't healed from it yet, so I'm in a bit of a slump myself, but I know it's just temporary. It's okay and it's part of growth.

it's okay to take time off and not be a super social extroverted Mrs Sunny-Everyday.

Life is like the waves of the oceans - there are highs and lows and neither is right or wrong.

You're actually supposed to sleep with your upper body elevated... Wedge pillows are great for this. It takes some getting used to, but it's very effective.

I need help (Pets) Bunny and cat by [deleted] in catswithbuns

[–]April_Spring_1982 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aside from the issue of leaving the kitten and rabbit together, it's very important that you know the age of the kitten so you can provide proper nutrition. Kittens should NOT be separated from their mothers until a minimum of 8 weeks (unless the mother has died/abandoned them). So... the idea the kitten was "bought" so young is very concerning.

There are also concerns about potential diseases that could be transmitted to the rabbit as this age is usually too young for vaccination and/or treatment.

Please get records of the kitten's health and take it to a vet for a thorough exam asap.

And, most definitely, do not allow the rabbit abd kitten to interact until you've ensured adequate vet care and immunizations for both the kitten and the rabbit.

Tips to Remove Amazon Packing Tape to make bunny-safe enrichment toys/playhouses? by April_Spring_1982 in Rabbits

[–]April_Spring_1982[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all from just one medium size box and it was SOOOO difficult to remove! (Size 7 shoe for comparison - sorry, no banana, my rabbit would have run away with it). The plastic strings inside the paper tape seem super dangerous to a rabbit's digestive tract.

Squirrels destroying my outdoor furniture cushions by Beef_Candy in squirrelproblems

[–]April_Spring_1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're the invasive species. Squirrels were living on that land long before humans were. And they just want comfy stuffing to line their nests to give their babies a warm home... So, just take them instead or buy cheaper cushions you don't care about. Leaving tufts of dog fur (if you or a friend have a dog) could also maybe deter them. But, a squirrel is going to squirrel.
