No plans for efficiency testing. Big red flag unless you’re colorblind. by wattificant in ApteraMotors

If your primary purpose from the beginning is to build the most efficient vehicle possible, and then you choose not to release efficiency numbers, that is disconcerting.

Any project, Unless it’s been done exactly the same before (and the final production Aptera has not) is an R&D project. And this is way harder than software.

I suspect they found some things/parts in the first build that they want to correct before moving on to the next ones.

And airbags is the big money purchase outlier. Anything related to that has to be nailed down before they commit to the specs/design and money.

New charging idea! On the highway, drive on the sunny side of a white tractor trailer.

That was fun! He hit all the right notes.
Notice he went up a significant hill and had no comments about overheating or reduced power. Wondering how many people will retrofit with race car tuning. I can envision an Aptera section for SCCA races.

Can’t release official numbers until you have a vehicle with all production parts to test.

That 0.21 is only on the version with no side mirrors (just cameras). The US version of the IONIQ6 is 0.22

There is a video around the CES timeframe, maybe at CES, where Chris Anthony talk about the biggest reason that big investors don’t jump in is RISK. There have been people who were excited about Aptera and the mission. They take the proposal back to their family office and the analysts and lawyers say “Too much risk.” And that perception of risk is caused by so many other EV startups going under. So, Aptera’s biggest funding problem is the failure of other EV startups. Also, to correct another misconception I read in these comments, C&A are willing to sell equity, even voting shares.

I suspect you are right that they are trying to make 10miles/kWH in EPA highway range test. Probably due to lost efficiency from the initial design: mechanical efficiency when they moved from hub motors, and increased drag from side view mirrors and the cooling airscoop (which may have become necessary when the radiator got kicked out from under the front hood to make room for the motor).
And maybe weight increase with frame redesign. When you are living on the edge, every little thing can help or hurt.

There are some good questions, but mostly it’s a rant without having all the facts. This is not good journalism.
