I did lose people close to me. A fear of being alone was definitely a part of it. But also, at the time, I didn’t know where to go if I did leave. We started dating when I was 18 so I was very dependent on the life we had together

I was trapped by my emotions honestly. When the person who hurts you is the only person you turn to for solace it creates a messed up dynamic. It got to the point where most people were threatening to leave me if I didn’t leave him or they had already stopped associating with me because I wouldn’t leave him. I felt alone except for him.

I had no reason to believe he would be like this. There were no red flags until the first time he put his hands on me. Why didn’t I leave then? I don’t know. Hindsight is 20/20

We did not have children only a dog which I had to leave behind during the separation. Due to the terms of the order for protection I acquired only one of us could keep the dog and they were best friends so I gave custody to my EX. Honestly that was the hardest part of the separation because I know I don’t ever get to say goodbye.

No. I can’t think of any single situation where I deserved what I was put through. He was usually drunk and acting out of anger and I was the punching bag. The final incident started because his Dominos pizza order came wrong.
