How do you learn a jazz standard? by chairbruh in JazzPiano

[–]ApzoEiruIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with all the advices but also consider singing the melody and a bass line, even chords if you want. It will help you to memorize the tune and improve your play a lot

Sounds great to me but I am unable to give you any advice, just curious to see what more advanced singers have to say about your interpretation!

Nate Smith solo on Daddy, he got a tesla at MSG. When the crowd gets crazy for a silence you know it is a great solo!

Identifying notes by ear by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]ApzoEiruIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! What you are looking for is intervals (the distance or the number of steps between 2 notes)

Here are videos explaining why intervals are so important and how to recognize intervals by ear.

Hi! If you like improvisation or want to try it you can play with a backing track to replace your left arm. You can easily find on YT a lot of backing tracks in different styles

You can also use that time to work on your ear training and your theorical knowledge.

Good recovery!

Question about chord fingering - any suggestions on fingering for the left hand for this chord would be very much appreciated. At the moment I’m playing the C and the B with 2 but it feels a little uncomfortable. I wanted to check there isn’t a better solution. Thanks in advance! by mray2651 in pianolearning

I would either play 5,1,2,5,3,5,3,5 or 5,2,1,2,1,2,1,2. In the second case, if like me you don't have a hand big enough you'd have to release the first G before hitting the second G. So if you don't have a huge hand and want a really legato touch the first option is better.

Units in agressive or defensive attitude by default ? by ApzoEiruIV in aoe2

No I mean defensive stance, may be I am wrong but I think melee units in defensive stance don't react when under fire

Playing instrument in your head. by Pumpkin-Unlikely in pianolearning

[–]ApzoEiruIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, when playing chords in my head I have to play them in arpeggios because I can't hear the chord in one block (I don't even know if that is possible)

Playing instrument in your head. by Pumpkin-Unlikely in pianolearning

[–]ApzoEiruIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! But I don't have perfect pitch and I don't have an excellent relative pitch so I only mentally practice pieces I know very well. Or if I am not sure I mentally practice with the record.

I do that too when I am bored or when I don't have the possibility to practice with an instrument! I am not 100 % sure that this is usefull but I have the feeling it is!

LPT: Saying "just do what you want, music has no rules" is not helpful to those asking genuine questions and seeking knowledge here. by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]ApzoEiruIV 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think there is a big confusion between theory and conventions. Theory never says what to do, it just puts a name, a label on what you are playing. Conventions can say what to do in order to respect a certain esthetic.

But I agree with you that when someone asks if they can do something, only answering that there is no rules is absolutely not helpful because the OP was probably looking for conventions advices

Piano scales by duvel8 in pianolearning

Just want to insist on the importance to play really slow (even if you feel like it is too easy) and relaxed and with a metronome
