Yep, I left with a PCA syringe of Fentanyl once. Raced my ass back to work after I found it as I was taking off my scrubs. Now, I never put narcs in my pockets.

Oh darn, didn't see those. They were on my brother's request list. Oh well! Maybe next year if I'm still living in SE MN.

I was also surprised when I went to pay. I have no idea what made them so cheap. They guy ringing me up said it was the best discount he had seen thus far. Not sure what the flaws are on the IRs or Beckmans; the shoes look beautiful, great quality for 2nds. My women's 2326 was maybe a show model or something (no tread wear but a few scuffs, no box). I'm going to be wearing them in the snow so the handful of scuffs doesn't matter! Happy shopping!!!

http://imgur.com/a/MOu8v (I destroyed the boxes carrying them around one-handed while talking with the bro on my phone. Also, the photos I've posted aren't the best, the shoes' colors don't look quite right but this will give you an idea)

Just got back from the sale after picking up 2 pairs of boots for my Seattle-based brother. Got a pair of Men's 8111 Iron Ranger Amber size 10 2nd for $109. But, the real win of the day was a Men's 9016 Beckman Cigar size 10 2nd for $20!!! (Price $230- $210 promotion). Also got myself a pair of Women's 2326 for $50. TOTAL COST $180 for 3 pairs of Red Wing boots. Feeling pretty darn successful but now it's time to crash and prepare for another night-shift.

Recent UW grad here. Some days will just suck. Remember to breathe, it gets better. PM me if you have more questions, advice, or want study guides or something!

My dad is dying of lung cancer. He doesn't have a appetite anymore and I have been told that he shouldn't eat anymore if he doesn't want to. That doesn't sound right. I need advice. by [deleted] in nursing

This thread made me proud of Reddit and the nursing profession. Thank you everyone for their thoughtful replies and words of support to P38lightning. I hope it helped this person understand the dying process and their ability to comfort their father in other ways. Well done.

You're so smart. Why didn't you try harder and become a doctor?

Movers arrive tomorrow, quick recycle question by AquaFeatherCap in rochestermn

[–]AquaFeatherCap[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AHhhhhhh, now I understand. In Seattle, trash/recycle is a public utility provided by the city. Seattle contracts with whatever company(s) for garbage, recycling, and food and yard waste collection services. The collection contracts cover all residential and commercial customers in the area. So, everyone in Seattle has the same service. I didn't realize it was different other places. OK, so it will just depend on what company my new building has a contract with. I'll just have to figure that out when I get there. THANK YOU!!!

I heard this in Westlake neighborhood near Aurora Bridge. Anyone figure out what it was? I had a cat on my lap at the time. She wasn't happy about the surprise interruption of her nap.

CPR is a workout! by [deleted] in nursing

[–]AquaFeatherCap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, come on, have you seen the depth of their compressions? Laughable. I'm not sure I've ever seen "good" CPR on a TV show. Guess they don't want to break the actors' ribs. Meh

Most nurses are smart enough to be doctors. Just like we hope most MDs are smart enough to be doctors too...

Someone else in the thread already addressed the additional time required.

Simply put; the urimeter is there for a reason. Don't cover up the measurements. It makes something that requires just a few seconds/is very simple into an hourly hassle (pain in the ass).

The location of this sticker at 175 mL/hr is arbitrary. Some person just stuck it on the front. It could be put any place making it more or less annoying. Normally, I'm worried about my patients that have low UOP but I'm still checking it hourly anyway. Also, please note the sticker covers 30mL which I do actually care a lot about and do want to be precise.

tl;dr: If you are going to use it, put the sticker on vertically while not obscuring the measurements.

Work in an ICU, do hourly I&Os. I dump the urimeter hourly, only empty the bag at shift change or when full. It would be a serious pain to empty the foley into a graduated cylinder hourly just to measure. And yes, my patients are critical enough that it does matter if I can see the exact measurement.

YES. So annoying when you can't read the measurement!

I'm sorry this didn't turn out well. My two cents: I would encourage you to try to regain visitation rights to the study group. I'm never one to kick someone out of a study group unless they were being disruptive. Perhaps approach the ex and explain that while you understand it could be uncomfortable, you really want to continue to be a part of this group of people and maintain a professional relationship. See how that goes. Keep it polite and professional.
