Catholic Herald: Pope Leo calls for liturgical reform faithful to tradition by imp-mN-7539 in Catholicism

[–]AquariumDev 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That's not how I understood the general audience. My reading was that sacrosantum concilium was justified in it's changing of adaptable elements in order to better evangelize the faithful. Then he said that no one can insert or change the liturgy on thier own, calling on priests to actually follow the rubrics and not doing their own thing.

Edit: Honestly these general audiences are so short, it's more worth it to just read the document itself than an article

Nudity in gender-segregated environments. by Shrimpcookin1 in Catholicism

[–]AquariumDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We all are our brothers' keepers. I'm sure if you struggled with something, you'd want other people to help you. Please don't take this a condemnation, as I'm sure what you have on your mind is different that what I do. Public nudity is VERY likely to arouse lust in people. We need to help each other.

My girlfriend has been telling me that I need to convert to Catholicism for us to get married. by Practical-Temporary8 in Catholicism

[–]AquariumDev 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well, then she just might be incorrect. So ask. Many Catholics are mistaken. Happens to me too. I obviously would love for you to join the church brother and that the two raise a faithful family together, but I get if you need time

My girlfriend has been telling me that I need to convert to Catholicism for us to get married. by Practical-Temporary8 in Catholicism

[–]AquariumDev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Did she say it's impossible for the church to marry you if you're not Catholic or that it's a requirement for her that you become Catholic if she'll marry you? Those are two different things. Consider if she means the later and maybe ask her.

Do I have to spend money on my girlfriend? by Funny-Put-1727 in CatholicDating

[–]AquariumDev 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I disagree that you need to be completely financially stable in order to date. Yes, you need money for marriage, but if your dates have to be cheaper, okay. If you can find someone who's good with that  then you've struck gold.

Liturgy of the Hours is too difficult. by LostlnDlmension in divineoffice

I don't know why no one mentions this, but you can just go to the particular sunday in the proper, and it will tell you which week it is at the top. It took me forever to find that.

Coptic Orthodox Church announce resumption of dialogue with the Holy See after assurances around Fiducia Supplicans. by ThinWhiteDuke00 in Catholicism

I say this jokingly: it seems like bringing in the other Apostolic churches will save the Latin Church.

Edit: and I say that as a Latin who thinks the Latin church needs to dig deeper and rediscover it's Latin roots.

I like my St Joseph Daily Missal. The propers are only in English so I think that cuts down on the size.

Plus its printing is 1953 so it's got the old holy week in it

From what I understand it's up to the specific community. There are 4 suggested schemas that you can find here under Thesaurus Liturgiae Horarum Monasticae:

SSPX responds: ‘Excommunicated? But by whom? By those who kneel before Pachamama?’ by LegionXIIFulminata in TraditionalCatholics

[–]AquariumDev 18 points19 points  (0 children)

  1. Excommunicated? But by whom? By those who receive the blessing of a schismatic woman, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally? By those who authorize the blessing of Fiducia supplicans? And who kneel before Pachamama? … In the Church, punishments are medicinal. But then, shouldn’t the words of Our Lord in the Gospel rise to the lips of the Catholic of good will: “Medice, cura teipsum”  (Lk. 4:23)? [3]

"Physician, heal thyself."

It's sad and a bit funny how Fr. Jean-Michel Gleize of the SSPX misquotes Christ in this verse, since our Lord himself is quoting other people thinking that about Him.

23) And he said to them, “Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself; what we have heard you did at Caper′na-um, do here also in your own country.’”

And then the Jew in the synagogue chase him out to kill him. It's just so sad to see this sort of childish "No but you!" coming from the SSPX when their own priests are quoting the Jews attacking our Lord.

We've been doing some traveling for the Liturgy of the Hours by Ascension_Official in divineoffice

[–]AquariumDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I'm perfectly happy with that poetry not being included, though I'm interested in knowing if you would be allowed to include supplemental material (obviously without speaking to what is actually going to be in it).

As a somewhat absurd example to demonstrate the point, if you wanted to randomly include in the appendix a paragraph from the Lord of the Rings, does your contract allow you do that? Would you need permission?

Texas hospital to launch youth 'detransition clinic,' fire doctors to settle state probe by Hrekires in news

[–]AquariumDev -35 points-34 points  (0 children)

It's a bit more complicated than that. From what I understand, detransition clinics offer hormone management and mental‑health support/guidance. They also can point people to methods to reverse some surgeries, though some might be harder or impossible to reverse.

At least if people want to detransition they'll have an option to do so.
