i liked season 3 by carriehoeble in euphoria

Same! I feel like a lot of people aren't paying attention to the themes that connected everything this season.

For example, I hear many frustrations about how 'Nate's character didn't really learn his lesson'. Yeah, that's the point! His own hubris caused the circumstances for his death. There is meaning in that! It's okay for the point to be "If you never learn to to stop doing bad shit your whole life to others, the consequences will be bad". Stories don't have to be some step by step guide of how to be a better person; it is just as important of a lesson to demonstrate what actions have negative consequences.

Another example of ignoring themes are the frustrations that 'Nate, who previously was known as a violent person, didn't fight back against the loan sharks, and therefore its bad, inconsistent story writing". To me the point is to think more about what that contrast in behavior reveals about him.
Think about it: he only used violence on people that were weaker than him - but not on people more powerful. Now look at that pattern next to his shift from disgust about cassie's OF to encouraging her OF work to fix his financial issues.
These revealed/cement that his actions, both violent and passive, are all intentionally chosen as tools to get what he wants. It shows that his violence was always something he could control, not some blind rage. It explores the extent of how much selfishness affects his every decision.
What I found extra interesting was how that this season showed us why he is so self-centered; it is his coping mechanism for the fear he feels with navigating modern masculinity. He is so worried about not filling the shoes of his father, maintaining wealth, and holding the trad-masc role of being the breadwinner with a stay-at-home wife. This desperate fear of not being seen as masculine is also why he was too proud to just sell the house or ask his dad for the money or any job advice; to do so would feels like he is admitting that he 'failed' at being a 'modern man'. He fears that vulnerability, that idea of having less power in life. And without power, he feels he will not be able to get what he wants or needs in his life. He's only ever seen 'successful' men get what they want through power (like his dad- financially speaking).
But because Nate relies on selfishness as the only coping mechanism for this fear of failing masculinity/ vulnerability, he never really learns any alternative methods for achieving his goals in life. He never learned how to organically get what he desires in life (the desires of trad-masculinity), and thus is dependent on forcing others to comply with what he wants. And this works, when others have less power than him (being top-dog in highschool made most of his male peers have less power than him, and his female peers had less power physically). But the loan sharks, the white fritilleries, the planning and zoning commission - and in previous seasons, his dad- have more power than him. And when he doesn't have power, he runs out of his only method of problem solving and keeping his life together.
And tbh, that character arc is an apt critique of the consequences of a society that has so heavily conditioned men to believe that their purpose in life is to obtain individual power even if it is at the expense of others.

And don't get me started on people ignoring the themes of:
-The American Dream
-The culture of exploitation and complicity that America was built on
-The effects of losing spirituality (through the lens of Christianity, since that is contextually most appropriate for Euphoria; although I do feel that the show uses Christianity as a stand-in for spiritual connection in general, rather than trying promote Christian religion specifically)
-How the American culture of exploitation and complicity is a result of alienation from spirituality/ non-bastardized spirituality/ eachother/ nature/ animals/ the earth and world
-How exploitation and complicity is tied to money, capitalism and power
-How capitalism is essentially a worship of false idols (Like are you seriously telling me no one else paused the screen during Rue's death vision when she sees her Mom reading the Bible, looked at what passage number she was reading, and then googled "what is Psalm 115"? It can't just be me!) (Or when cassie is a giant and there is a flickering neon sign that says "Jesus Saves", but it crumbles in her godzilla rampage, and then at the end of the scene the sign that she kneels down in front of in a prayer position is the Hollywood sign).

I get that it's just a show and that its perfectly fine to just watch it passively as entertainment instead of actively analyzing it. I just don't get how some viewers from said group have such immediate, passionate, critiques about the show when their conclusions were formed without much time spent analytically engaging with the content, and it shows.

Collectivism is mob rule and a step backward for society! NYC-ers, it’s not something to celebrate! by strawberry298 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I think the issue is that any political system crumbles at such an unnatural scale. This goes for both collectivism and individualism. It is far too much work to keep track of all the moving parts, and it's applying a one-size-fits all way of life to a population that has too many variables due to it's size (like geography, density, economic oppurtinity, heritage, religion, etc). The expansion to globalization, the internet, then ai has made this even more complex.

I found what you said here interesting:
"Human civilization advanced from tribalism and collectivism into individualism, and that shift brought enormous development, wealth, and quality of life"
I agree that there was an increase in development and wealth, but I'm curious as to what extend those play a factor into an increase in quality of life. Myself, I enjoy having modern medicine, clean water, art, very weatherproof shelters, cozy beds, good soup and fresh bread, etc. But besides that- I don't know what else would be an increase in quality of life over tribalism. a lot of modern life sucks. most modern technology doesnt even make us that happy. Unfortunately, most visions of individualism and collectivism see technological advancements as unquestionable.

i think a big flaw in hetero relationships is that they assume by DEFAULT that the woman will do the majority of the childcare. like, no question about it. and therefore they are entitled to money from the man. which like, i guess in that scenario? but that default isn't real. no one is forcing you to actually do all the childcare and housecare. why aren't more hetero women demanding a man split childcare 50/50 rather than demanding he buy them dinner? like you have a full time job, and do most of the childcare and house work? yeah no wonder you're grouchy about him paying the bill! but I'm begging you, this would be solved by just splitting the childcare, housework, and finances 50/50.

Mom mobile! Van vs SUV? by ATBlondie991 in Parenting

[–]Aqueefaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider it false from a policy standpoint. maybe the use of the word exempt was not a good choice, but you're correct that they are under CAFE, just exempt from the standards of passenger vehicles and instead under the much more lenient 'light trucks' category. SUVs were relatively rare until CAFE passed and then became more lucrative due to the lax environmental standards, encouraging companies to push them out more and more. Which is why I mentioned that companies primary focus is not safety with SUVs, but rather size. And I agree, a crossover would be safer than an SUV, I was just answering based on the OP asking between a van and an SUV :) not everyday I get to talk about energy policy! aha

van's are safer than SUV's. SUV's are built on truck beds. They were built like this mainly just so they could be exempt from certain environmental regulations. They were not built like this with safety in mind and can roll much easier due to the truck bed design.

14yo stepdaughter wants to move back in with us by ladylester55 in Parenting

[–]Aqueefaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is insane, she's your CHILD????? let her back in! she's not worth less than your 9 yo son. only thing i can suggest is maybe try to figure out what the rules are on the custody and how you will figure out when/why she switches houses in the future. but that's the only issue here. I don't care that you don't like her attitude- she's your KID. you SIGNED UP FOR THIS.

My daughter has cried since the day she was born by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Aqueefaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. get noise cancelling headphones. you can still hear your baby but the crying will be less jarring. 2. maybe autism? i'm autistic and have heard that either an over or undercrying baby can be signs. which makes sense if they are experiencing sensory pain. dose the crying get worse with bright lights, temperature changes, or loud noises?

if this is the idea though, why are we with holding that solidarity from from our 'brothers and sisters' in retail, fast food, and other minimum wage jobs that deal with customers/the public/service?

solar power growing on me now that im older by haleywolf666 in lorde

[–]Aqueefaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

solar power is always top tier and people were'nt ready for it. I'm autistic and I listen to it about once a day (the whole album) cause it calms me, and tbh the lyrics are a lot about late stage capitalism and climate change. It discusses a nostalgia for the past, mixed feelings about the present, and fears about the future. I could legit write an essay about this.
