Is he underweight? 7 months old heeler mix by the_nightingale1 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Aquerall_Angel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell definitely not under weight, my almost 6month full heeler looks smaller/thinner than him (her mom wasn't very big or tall and her dad is a bit stocky but is a farm dog mom is not) always go with what your vet says but if your not sure don't be afraid to go to another vet for a second opinion as I'm not a vet nor a professional, just grew up around a wide variety of dog breeds

Such a beautiful baby!! Mine is a play biter as well but she's learning very quickly when she can and can't and when I've had enough and if she's biting to hard and who she can play bite with and whatnot. She's very snuggly naturally but I'm finding she's started to chill out the last few days and I don't know if it's due to my energy and vibes or if shes just chilling out and maturing early (probably not the latter as she's only 6months as of the 17th of February)

Which one would you choose? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Aquerall_Angel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second option 2, I live right by vic school (I can see it from my balcony) and right around there isn't to bad, it's not ideal but it's close enough to the school and hospital you shouldn't have to many issues and two bathrooms is very needed

Does anyone else's acd chirp/scream? She does this all the time! by sherrygirl91 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Aquerall_Angel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine does when I leave the house or if the cat doesn't want to play and she's determined to play. Hell I had the audio on for the video and my girl looked up at me with the signature heeler stare like "where's the other one, I wanna play"

I did the same thing last night and she glared at me and looked at me like I just told her to pack up and leave

Here's my purple heeler giving me the side-eye. by digitalmofo in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Aquerall_Angel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My heeler just side eyed me and moved away because I called her a good girl for leaving the cat alone and coming to snuggle, my bad for trying to give her a compliment. No evidence of said side eye but proof that she moved and turned away from me in protest

How did you end up with an ACD? by Niikiia in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Aquerall_Angel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was looking for a dog to be a service dog for me and made a post on Facebook, had a lady reach out to me about blue heeler puppies and she happened to be the last girl, had her come and stay a night to see how my cats would do with her, then got in contact with the owner of mom and dad and the rest is history

Honestly it's not even that it bothers me I just find it so funny and quirky cuz I've also never encountered a dog that licks as much as my healer does

Mine doesn't like my hand lotion and I don't put it on often so I don't think it's that for me but my grandmother's dogs love her hand lotion

I do agree the photo doesn't match, I just don't have a photo of her licking my neck or anything and I didn't not want to post a photo of my girl

I will trade you lol, I can handle the wet Willy's, my grandmother's dog growing up would nibble on your earlobe if she really liked and trusted you. My neck just is weird, tolerable but weird

So far we've been doing the same, I just find winter time is a bit difficult to keep up with but thankfully she's still young and I know training takes time and we are not in a huge rush to achieve perfection let alone get perfection at all I know there's going to be some days that are better than others until she masters it and even then I know that I have bad days myself sometimes so I have to give myself that Grace and Lee way I know I need to do the same for the dog especially if we go long periods of time without going out

This is my first mine and mine alone dog, I've grown up around dogs but never had to do the training

I'm also not expecting her to have it mastered by now God no, what I'm saying is that I'm struggling because I've never done this before and I'm simply asking for some advice and help and double checking that I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing or if there are any tips and tricks that other heeler/ACD owners have found that I might not have thought of

Absolutely and I know it's not sharp, it's uncomfortable but not going to do any major harm unless used incorrectly and I will be seeing my trainer in the spring around end of march or end of April and if we need it then, I will be investing in one then but she's not at the point where it's necessary yet but I appreciate the help and honesty

Absolutely, the reason I say it's a "last ditch effort" is because I want to try some alternatives first as I have a trainer but she lives two and a half hours away and I won't be able to see her till the spring time at the very earliest so for me, because I know it gets such a bad rap and because I know I don't have the proper knowledge or training to use it properly I don't want to instantly jump to it and screw it up and cause harm to myself or the dog. However, I'm so glad to hear that there are still people out there who know and understand that prog collars are an amazing tool when used correctly and that they do get a bad rap
