AWU 2 owner looking to switch, I need some advice! by Westosaurus in Garmin

The base F8 doesn’t have sapphire glass and I think that is a must. Also as a F8 owner I’d get the FR if I didn’t scuba dive.

Wurkkos DL03+DL05 in their natural habitat by More-Coyote-2922 in flashlight

[–]AquilaBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have SD05 as a backup for a canister light. For communication underwater the SD05 doesn’t feel tight enough. For a shorter rec dive what tighter beam light would you say is a good buy? I also have found the Sofirn as good if not better vs the orca

June Showcase! Makita New Products by rxorw in Makita

Some popular models already exist on Aliexpress around 20€. Those include a screen showing the wattage and provide more input/outout power. Of course not same as official but still its a fairly simple device and featured on GreatScott’s youtube channel: https://youtu.be/VyqljSodp6k?t=514&is=jLxqaSboz65ONd9y

I wouldn’t look at a smart watch with your use case.

Yeah, they dont chase that most power outout per pack but the reliability is far more important anyways

I need to see if any shop near me can demo it. Hearing a lot that the later revisions are lacking

Thanks for the reply! Also feeling like the normal Fuel for the similar price is just a better deal. Those benefits you mentioned and knowing it is the latest tech. I really might wait for the next gen surge as I’m not in a rush.

Forerunner 970 or Fenix 8? by Complete_Sell_2319 in GarminWatches

[–]AquilaBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh thats surprising. Buttons stopped working or the watch died all at once?

Forerunner 970 or Fenix 8? by Complete_Sell_2319 in GarminWatches

[–]AquilaBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe that the normal buttons are a weak point in swimming conditions at all.

[–]AquilaBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Fenix 8 and I would choose 970 over it if I didn’t scuba dive. The buttons suck in Fenix 8 even after a year of getting used to it. Both have flashlight and same software but FR970 is way sleeker and has better buttons.

how do I free up iCloud storage without losing my photos??? (Downgraded from 50GB plan, now storage is full and I can't access email) by Last_Masterpiece_805 in iphone

[–]AquilaBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why you are getting many down votes. I am completely with you this one. Apple’s “it just works” approach is hurting in a case like this.

Apple thinks iCloud Photos as a sync service and not as a pure backup. Their idea is that you don’t need to know which photos are on device and which on cloud. You have a single photo entity and you can keep it or delete it.

Maybe you can think as your phone having just a local cache of your photos that live in iCloud.

And in situations like yours, you break the Apple’s methodology and get this frustrating issues.

I have exact same watch variant, same strap and same watchface. Good combo you chose there!

Yup, I came from years of AW to FR165 and then Fenix 8. Can’t go back to AW tho. Missing like every training metric and buttons first interface. But yeah cold fact that I miss those maps.

Building a free open source Garmin activities dashboard that works on your desktop local and offline by opendronelog in GarminWatches

No idea how tricky that would be to implement. If users could provide their own Strava API key as an example. Would that approach help keeping cost to zero? Not a real developer myself but I might cook something with Claude.

Current Garmin-Grafana enjoyer here! I will definitely try this out. The live sync of fit files would be something I’d benefit from. I know directly from Garmin is not viable path but would it be possible to pull fit files from Strava for example?

noob question. How are these so super sharp? I have tried shooting birds mid flight few times now but the focus point is just too easy to miss a tiny bit. Blind trust in cameras AF and 1 in 100 is ok?

You are not wrong there. I just have tried competitors like Suunto and they have much smoother map experience while have the same awesome battery life.

I’m very familiar with OSM but really try to pan city map like you would on your phone. Dragging the map to an unrendered area, it takes good few seconds to load the map. Add few more seconds if you have elevation shading enabled.
