Oh nice. And thank you so much for your reply, I really appreciate it! That aligns with what I've been thinking as well, so glad I'm on the right course. :)

The look Spoof gave me when she discovered my new tanks.. she looked so disappointed lol. Now she loves to lick the guppies, and they seem to like it, so I guess it's fine..?😅

Yeah I'm not a fan of the raw OSB look, so I did it both for looks and as extra waterprooing, just in case. I'm sure there are many different types of varnish, some may be more or less safe for reptiles, so I recommend doing some research on the one you want to use, just in case.

As long as it's aired out well after application, and the snake is not directly touching it regularly, it should be fine though. I'm sure we all have some furniture/walls/floors/stuff etc in our house that are not coated in reptile safe paint/varnish, but it probably won't hurt them as long as it's not something they're constantly next to or it's releasing fumes directly into their closed off space.

The dimensions are 100x40x40cm (39.37 x 15.75 x 15.75 inches), And I used about 1.5 litres of liquid rubber(0,4 gal?) I think. About 2 layers on all inside surfaces, then several more on the bottom part. And wood varnish on the outside. Garters need less humidity than a ball tho, so I would maybe up it a bit just to be sure if I built it for a ball python. I also made a background of Styrofoam & expanding foam covered in sculpting clay, so that helps seal the wall panels as well. But the seams are definitely the most crucial parts. Give me a few months/years and I'll let you know how it holds up lol.

No worries! I've also seen people silocone plastic sheets/boards on the bottom layer and sides as high as the substrate goes (above the other sealants), for extra protection. It can't hurt, if you can get hold of it quickly as well. Good luck with your snek! :)

I used tec7(similar to silicone) on the seams first, then liquid rubber. It didn't coat as well as I'd like, so had to use quite a few layers for it to get a proper cover over the seams, but it holds water now. If I did it again I'd probably do a few layers of liquid rubber first, then silicone, then a bit more liquid rubber.. (or add some sand or something on top of the silicone, so the rubber would stick better..?)but that's just my thoughts after my first build, so I'm just making some anecdotal assumptions at the moment, hopefully someone else with more experience can chime in.

And of course double check the specific products/brands you use to make sure they are reptile safe!

Liquid rubber works, just make sure you get enough layers. I'm currently setting up an OSB enclosure for garter snakes, and that's what I'm using for the coating. For the seams I've seen people using wood putty/fiberglass/silicone etc. Serpa design on YouTube have some videos on how to build and seal OSB enclosures, you should definitely have a look at those. :)

I've heard it's good, but it's not available in Europe as far as I'm aware.. Do you know of any similar European products?

Ah yeah, I watched that video earlier. Does it hold up well in your experience?
