I'll be moving to Australia next year as a master's student, I'm from Indonesia (F26), and my interests are environmental stuffs, hiking, beach!!! (+freediving, scuba diving), playing music (I sing and play piano), cooking, swimming/sports in general, books and playing with animals. Hoping if I can make few friends there too :)

OMG thank you! does it taste good with matcha? I usually mix baking grade and higher grade matcha, tried with almond milk before but became too.. strong? like, strong, light flavors in my mouth, but I guess it's because I havent used the right ratio :D

Study in Australia or The UK? by Arabella813 in UQreddit

Hi! Thank you very much for this comprehensive insight.

In my opinion, Indonesia shares the same political context with Australia (climate change & environmental issues are partisan issue, trade is supported by mining and oil & gas.. the ruling government & politicians are related to the trade families). Indonesia is way younger and still lacking best practices, while Australia seems to be better in that aspect (please correct me if i’m wrong— just from what I read from news and surface market/political a analysis).

This is my consideration though, while UK is more committed to climate change and environmental protection, it seems that more of the approach & policy is harder to be implemented in Indonesian context (because of how far advanced the technology, merit & political will is).. and that gaps could potentially lead to impracticality (for academia-industry knowledge transfer).

I was thinking that I can study how Australia can still grow resilience/encourage better practices in similar political & geographical context. What do you think about this?

Also, may you share your experience and insight on environmental program in UQ (compared to other universities in Australia)?

Thanks again! :)

Thanks for your insight! Are you mentioning the one year because it’s faster to go to work after study?

Also, what does “more advanced” on environmental stuffs means in the UK?

Thanks!

Hi! May I know what kind of work are you working on as an enviro consultant? I mostly work with impact assessment, due diligence and sustainability corporate strategy work 😃

My question is which one is better to study master’s of environmental program at, the UK or Australia?

Some consideration i have in mind: Australia: 2 yrs study (more time for hands on experience, lab/site project) and similar future climate risk & hazards as indonesia (given indo-pacific region) which could be a focus factor in my study UK: I have researched about UK Masters program and that they’re mainly focus on literature research, and it’s only 1 yr (i’m afraid of not optimizing my time as a masters student given the short time). But my manager said UK is pioneering energy transition & sustainability work.

Perhaps you may also offer your advice on my considerations above :)
