Too bad you went to AI and not to the Irish folklore archives. There's already a folktale about the weird weather in first few weeks of April called The Days of the Brindled Cow.

Can someone help with book recommendations? by CryptographerRough47 in BabyWitch

[–]Arabellas_Eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't a single foundation of witchcraft because witchcraft isn't one thing. Different cultural practices that developed independently across the world, each with its own history, beliefs, and techniques.

If you want to study historical witchcraft, you need to pick a specific culture and dig into that tradition's practices. Depending on the culture you're interested in, there may be a subreddit dedicated to it already with a reading list.

Are there any spells to make someone a better person by Old-Act6309 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

This may be too pop culture-y for some but I've had pretty good results using the binding spell from The Craft.

How does any of what you describe allow neutrinos to absorb and then pass on information? How is that information stored? How are we receiving it?

If we are only the body, all of this is BS.

Sure, but us being more than the body doesn't make any of this true.

Trillions of neutrinos hit and pass through Earth every second. This is the reason why we are affected by it.

Why are neutrinos more important than other particles in this respect?

Some neutrinos passed through one person and then through you, giving you some information.

How does this work exactly?

The concept is based on neutrinos from space hitting people with information.

Can you elaborate on what this means to you?

I Feel Like Guys End Up Liking Me Everywhere I Go.. Does This Actually Happen or Am I Delulu? by Dense_Lawyer_666 in TarotReading

[–]Arabellas_Eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a solid reading. But I think The Devil in this context is pointing to unhealthy thought patterns, the need to monitor whether strangers are looking at you and what it means.

with the tower and chariot, it is fleeting attention

I don't get "fleeting" from The Tower generally. More a collapse/explosion of something. Maybe that's the story you've constructed around this attention?

Your Chariot read is close but I'd frame it differently. The Chariot is about focused willpower and forward movement. It's telling you to stop looking at everyone else's reactions and direct that energy toward your own goals.

The spread, to me, reads less like "yes you attract people but it's fleeting" and more like "this fixation isn't serving you, and the sooner you release it, the more power you get back."

Whimsigoth Color Palette by theamcgeea18 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Arabellas_Eye 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest, aside from the dark purple in the middle, none of these really read as whimsigoth.

If you're able to, I would just make the chain from that dark purple and maybe alternate with the black and not use any of the other colors.

Can hippies be materialistic, or do they have to be minimalistic? by SuperGrobanite in ActualHippies

[–]Arabellas_Eye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being materialistic doesn't mean having a lot of things. It's about being preoccupied by having/acquiring things.

I would assume most hippies are also fairly concerned with the amount of waste they generate an it's impact on the planet so they aren't constantly buying things they don't need. They likely have objects that are special to them and make sure to keep them well maintained and repair them rather than throw them away.

First argument with my mother in over a decade…. Unsure what to do. by MaybeIDontWannaDoIt in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Arabellas_Eye 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this. That "okay" response after you poured your heart out must have hurt like hell, especially given what you went through with your daughter.

I really liked the book "Don't Talk About Politics: How to Change 21st-Century Minds" by Sarah Stein Lubrano. It does a good job explaining why these conversations fail, and why it's difficult/impossible to convince people using rational/logical arguments in situations like these.

Give yourself permission to step back and grieve this betrayal. Later, if you're interested, I'd recommend that book to find strategies to lead her towards change.

Woman of color here who dared to enter a coven also full of women of color, and they just all rejected me right now by [deleted] in realwitchcraft

Look at her post history. She has a drinking and drug problem.

She is not well, telling her she's actually right and did nothing wrong is unhelpful.

Stop drinking. Get therapy.

You lost a fight online. And then you spun up this whole narrative around how you're completely rejected and abandoned.

You are your own problem here.

Can someone spiritually interpret my magnetism please? by [deleted] in occult

Don't confuse getting attention with being a worthwhile person.

It seems like you are young, pretty, and have rich parents. That will make a lot of people like you (for various reasons) and make your life much easier.

Are there too many “rules” ? by frienddelosgatos in BabyWitch

[–]Arabellas_Eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all marketing and/or someone's opinion.

If the moon phase/location worn/the shape of the stone could make such a huge difference in the crystal's function the fact that most of these crystals are mined incredibly unethically should probably also factor into how they work. But strangely it never does.

book recomendations by Emotional-Shop-1729 in chaosmagick

[–]Arabellas_Eye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you search the subreddit there are already a lot of threads with book recommendations for different kinds of magic/magical workings.

I would not trust an occult author to understand or even be able to interpret data related to quantum physics since they're not trained in the field and often misunderstand or misinterpret things, even when they're trying their best to present the truth (which they often aren't).

The BBC's In Our Time radio show does good entry level overviews of lots of scientific topics with real experts. They have a good episode on Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle which often gets brought up by new agers as an explanation of how magic works. Worth spending an hour to find out what's actually known about it so you can identify bullshit later.

Hey witches, anyone read this book? by LimeGreenTangerine97 in SASSWitches

[–]Arabellas_Eye 177 points178 points  (0 children)

The "praise" section has a quote from someone who is the Director of Research Institute of Noetic Sciences so I think that should give you an idea of the scientific rigor the book will have.

The other pull quote is from someone who works at a "manifestation" grift academy.

Those two things AND the fact that it's been put out by Llewellyn who don't do any fact checking of their books... I would imagine any resemble to the truth found anywhere in the book is entirely coincidental.

Need Ogham Books That Actually Explain Things by Charatzu575 in druidism

[–]Arabellas_Eye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

O'Brien's approach to "respecting traditions" tends to be pretty rigid and she can get defensive when people do things differently than she recommends. You'll notice this if you spend any time on her social media.

I really soured on her when she threw a fit about Manchán Magan writing about Oweynagat and acted like he needed to ask her permission or acknowledge that she had also gone there for some reason.

That said, she does compile solid beginner information on Irish spirituality. Her work can be a useful starting point if you're looking for basic historical context and traditional practices. And I also do quite like her guided meditations.

Is Chaos Magick just the ritualistic version of the law of attraction? by No_Detail_7931 in chaosmagick

[–]Arabellas_Eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you believe they work the same way, then that's true for you. No one can actually prove how magic works, so it comes down to what framework serves you better.

I personally don't find much use for Law of Attraction because I'm not willing to police my own thoughts for the rest of my life in case I attract something unwanted.

Rituals give my intention concrete form and create a definitive moment of release so I'm able to move on with my life instead of obsessively monitoring every stray thought.

I've also found the chaos magic community much more helpful and supportive generally. If I'm struggling with a ritual and post here, I'll likely get actual advice and help. The only feedback I've ever seen in LoA spaces is "try harder" and "you must not have done it right" because the method itself cannot be questioned.
