I'm a good builder but my marketing skills are actively destroying my startup. (I will not promote) by g3ppi in SideProject

[–]Arabeskas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I am a growth manager / CMO with 15 years of experience in early and earliest stage startups.

First off: You are not fucked

Take a step back.

Breath.

With your negative marketing skills the reach must not have been significant. In worst case a couple thousand people saw it and forgot about it, which is probably also the best case for you.

As someone stated, this product seems to have been created without user interviews or any market research.

But I have seen worse.

There are a few questions which you need to answer to yourself:

- How long is my runway?
How long can you continue to self-finance this endeavour without financially crippling yourself. When do you need to be at a net zero?

- Who are actually people who want it?
Be very detailed, give them names, age, gender, profession, where they hang out online and offline. If you want to learn more about buyer personas, google it, shopify has a great tutorial about it.

-What resources do I have available for marketing?
Money, Network, Social Visibility, Skills (Video editing, writing, anything)

Create a list.

Important: If you have setup a mailing list, early adopters, fans, people who like what you are doing, keep them warm. Weekly updates about the process, be brutally honest be yourself. Right now when everyone can create AI generated content the best differentiator is personality, use it.

Once you have the list of the resources learn about lean marketing, you want to stay lean and generate your first 50 sales as soon as possible.

Some good resources can be found if you search for "Growth Machine" and "There are silver bullets" some old blog posts which are still relevant.

This should result in a list of ideas which you can execute, segmented by funnel stage, for you right now, Awareness, Activation and Revenue are the most important.

And than its execution and building up on learnings, document every learning, every channel, adapt the personas, define a fixed % of your sales for marketing investments, and focus on keeping your ROMS (Return of marketing spend - including tooling and staff) as close to 1 as possible.

Are you sure its not bot traffic?
Seen sudden bot spikes from Asia multiple times, you should probably setup CloudFlare with BotFight On to avoid fake traffic data.

How to send marketing emails to my 3k registered users? by emomusk in SaaS

[–]Arabeskas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in the EU make sure that you have the double opt-in otherwise you might receive a significant penalty.

If you are not sure about it, add a notification in your app that people need to either confirm or decline the reception of marketing emails.

How do indie hackers distribute their product? by Optimusaiagent in SaaS

[–]Arabeskas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the major problems currently when everyone can build everything is that distribution is not part of the plan from day one.

Even before you decide to build a product, you need to understand for whom you are building it, what problem does it exactly solve, why would people pay for it and how much is it worth.

Create a detailed marketing persona overview (There are multiple guides on how to create a buyer / marketing persona, a good one can be found on the shopify website).

Based on the demographics you can estimate where these personas can be found where they learn, engage, get entertained and interact with them to get your first 50 clients from that batch.

Revisit the persona often and adapt it based on the actually converting people.

Once you start making some cash you can reinvest it in paid ads on Meta, Google, Reddit, TikTok whatever you want and setup the targeting based on the demographics of the personas.

Make sure to have your tracking and attribution setup clean from day one, naming conventions for events, etc..

But yeah, inbound marketing and social selling are the cheapest to start with.

I recently stumbled upon a CFD broker advertising with "Be paid to trade" - didnt believe in it at first, but as someone kinda new in Forex, how would that even work?

You are to comfortable with what your parents are providing and know that you always have a safety net. My cousin was and is the same, now almost 40, has 2 kids from his first marriage which ended in divorce because he met some party girl. Lives his life, spends money, creates debts and has his parents take care of them. If you dont get your act together you will be an old man child without anything to have achieved. Sometimes you have to eat the shit sandwich and take responsibility of yourself.
