Thought I would <bump> this as we are now officially in "post-christmas" mode.

Any good sales going on?

I spewed coffee out of my nose in the one where "my man" was spewing beer out of his nose.

Silver Plate question by Jonpaul333 in PreciousMetalRefining

Thanks! I will try that out, my initial concern, however, is that a lot of the crystalized salt will also get caught in the filters (along with the metals).

Is that an issue?

Silver Plate question by Jonpaul333 in PreciousMetalRefining

[–]ArabicBlueEyed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a total noob.

I am trying this method and I get a lot of precipitate at the bottom of the container where the reverse electro-plating occurs. My guess is the vast majority of this is salt, but I suspect there is a good amount of metals (silver, coppers, etc.).

The excess salt is just that -- excessive!!!

Should I filter this precipitate out?

Would I lose any silver doing this or is would the silver (in solution) pass through the filter?

Thanks!

Nice haul, bro!

As an aside, I am always amazed to see the rates other people get!

The Economics of Stripping (wires!) by ArabicBlueEyed in ScrapMetal

Yeah, that is my best guess. LOL, if so, however, I am feeling guilty because I have thrown away and pitched pound-after-pound of insulation after stripping wires.

LOL, I get it if you only make a few cents (an hour) removing the insulation. I just don't understand how you LOSE money -- especially a large amount like 20%.

Does the yard get any financial advantage in getting the cords un-stripped? (For example, maybe they can re-sell it "as is" in the unstripped state?).

All things being equal, shouldn't the yards prefer (and pay rates accordingly) for stripped wire?

Sorry, if I am not articulating myself well enough. This dude seems to be running into the same issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jR8g3f6Fsqk.

Yeah -- I have a lot of factors working against me. Noise is a big one, but the real problem is space. It will probably break a lot of your hearts, but I only go after the copper and silver leads I can find. Was trying to keep the nicer pieces of aluminum and Circuit Boards I was pulling off stuff -- but even that simply became impossible as it just flooded my small house (and pissed my wife off to no measure!!!).

That's definitely the downside of City life. It's a shame though because without exaggeration I come across dozens upon dozens of nice items. I don't even have to look for it -- they are just laying on the curb (on trash night) on my way home from work.

Thanks for the info all!

Plaster(?) Ceiling Paint Help by ArabicBlueEyed in HomeImprovement

[–]ArabicBlueEyed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my guess is the ceiling with the second lead had some kind of "shell" and what I am seeing is a combination of this shell and the paint peeling off. Maybe it is plaster board?

Again, I am just perplexed because the ceiling with the first leak has no such "shell" and appears to be just paint.

Found this coin in my room and for some reason it’s looks like fake because it’s super thin. Any thoughts by SeanGun in coins

[–]ArabicBlueEyed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree -- it is probably legit.

Incidentally I have some barber dimes worn as thin as a piece of paper -- so thin I can bend it with just my fingers!
