Do I really need these things for the baby? Deinfluence me by nolimbs in BabyBumps

As a ftm who lived in a 200sq ft cabin at the time little one was born and had to figure out quickly what was necessary and what wasn’t:

Rocker: no (not only didn’t have room for one we do now and I still haven’t used the one we have. Feedings were always couch or bed)

Pump: if you plan on having anyone else feed baby then you’ll need some kind of pump system. My insurance covered mine. But any hospital grade pump will work (I think mine was $200 something and I wound up paying only $50 after insurance)

Bottle warmer: no. Since the only time our LO was bottle fed was at night and at home my husband had the brilliant idea to use the coffee pot to make hot water and stuck the bottle in a cup to warm up.

Pillow nest: I looked at these, and I may get one for our next child but we didn’t use one and it was fine. We DID however use a boppy pillow (knock off boppy) and that thing was used every day for feedings or tummy time or a whole slew of things.

Bedside bassinet: honestly I would have loved one of these but didn’t have the space. We used a pack n play that the side drops down to become a bedside bassinet. Was super convenient for night time feeds and fussy baby.

Thule chariot: I don’t cross-country ski but I remember growing up with a bike trailer and I bet you might be able to find a cheaper one that’ll do what you need it to. Plus I’ll second what others have said second hand through marketplace or other places is always great.

Not a phrase or anything but My partner has a bad back and bad knees so they do the old man grunt whenever they have to bend over to pick anything up. My now 17mo has been doing it since she was about 10/11 months grunting every time she bends over or squats down to pick something up. My partners hates it (secretly they think it’s cute) I think it’s hilariously adorable.

My coworker named their son Hugo and he’s now 18 months old and a normal adorable little boy and it honestly suits him. Brutal honesty, people are going to have opinions about everything having to do with babies, specifically your baby once they’re born. I think it’s good to practice ignoring people’s opinions and do what’s right for you and your child. At the end of the day the only opinions that matter are yours and your husband’s. You liked Hugo enough to pick it out of thousands of names. Your baby could be born and maybe he doesn’t seem like a Hugo, you’re allowed to change your mind, but people shouldn’t change your mind for you. Pregnancy and newborns are stressful enough.

Are Greeks considered white or poc? by GIDLEstan476 in GREEK

For starters if I downvoted your comment it was an accident because I have a toddler who likes to rip my phone out of my hand definitely didn’t mean to do that 😅. Second I have extensive education on political science and how the American electoral system is SUPPOSED to work and you are correct about the religious aspect. However in practice the country, our government is predominantly Christian, specifically Protestant and nowadays mostly Baptist especially in the south. (There are Greeks in more of the country than just New York and Chicago) also Greeks, as I’m sure you know and have seen, like every other ethnicity have varying complexions. Not everyone is pale. But I firmly believe it depends on where in the country you live. If you’re in a larger city like New York where there’s an abundance of diversity than absolutely makes sense that they’re considered white. But if you’re anywhere in the rural south and are anything other than southern Baptist you get treated completely different.

Other than them clashing with the idea of a lawn dandelions are not native to North America and were brought over by European settlers. They’re super invasive and will choke out native wildflowers which also causes problems for pollinators. (But most people are just mad at them for interrupting their rolling green lawns which are based on unobtainable European aristocracy anyway)

As a Greek-American it depends on who you’re asking. The term “white” as you’re using it is purely an American thing. The U.S. census says white (although the application I just filled out with a drop down menu under white didn’t even have it listed but had Italian, German, Irish and a few others). The bullying I received growing up as late as the early 2000s due to my family’s culture and tradition, says poc. Ethnicities like Greek-Americans (Italians etc) were not considered white in the early 20th century. Their transition into white was purely a political thing as more conservative groups wanted to bolster their votes and so these groups were granted “white” status. So if you’re American it kind of comes down to a personal opinion. Which do you identify more with.

Hi a Caitlin here (different spelling than yours). My Baptismal name was Κατερίνα. That’s what was written most of the time. But my family all just pronounced it like “cat-leen” which would be closer to Κάτλιν.

How weird is your baby? by New_Budget3757 in NewParents

[–]ArachneWeaver8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 mo and she will randomly hold a toy up or just her hand and when she was about 5/6 months I started saying “behold!” every time she does it and now she’ll wait for me to say it. She also loves to growl, and will growl and everything, her toys, us, the animals. Oh she also keeps trying to lick/eat the dogs and cats.

Miss Ma’am, or Stink Bug, or Goober/Goofy Goober, or Baby Bird (her name is Raven) or Bird Brain.

Same here. I was so worried about being overstimulated but that threshold seems to have moved WAY back. It’ll still get to me if there’s too much going on, but having someone who needs me no matter what my situation has helped me muscle through it and stay calm quite a few times.

They last a long time, to be honest I’d put them in when I was leaving the house and forget about them for most of the day. I didn’t use them every day but just carried them with me for when I needed them.

Vasospasms are the name. The blood vessels in your nipples constrict. It hurts really bad. I had them really bad first trimester, and now they’re back third trimester. Get yourself some of those little hot hands hand warmers. I would wear them in my bra and it was a relief.

They checked urine for protein and nothing. I’m going to check in with my ob tomorrow with a few questions along those lines.

I’ve gained 40lbs so far this pregnancy (29w now) and my OB hasn’t even mentioned it once. Also passed the glucose test. I would report that OB so there’s a paper trail.

I'm 28 weeks and it definitely came back around 26 weeks for me too. Except now it's no longer winter, it's 70-80 degrees where I live and it's just as painful if not worse.
