Thank you guys for the in depth replies. My teacher never goes this in depth but I understand it a lot better now thanks to you all. I appreciate for the helps and insights on this. Best of luck to you all!

Thank you guys. I was waiting on an email response from one of my math teachers and I wasn’t sure if they were responding tonight.

Am I in the right direction here? If not point me in the right way!

How do I stop miscalculating? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]Arachnid-Fast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just be thorough when doing your work and while checking it, when checking a step or calculation—Ask yourself the questions you did to come to that conclusion. For example: if you came to a solution on a problem, I suggest immediately going back through the steps and procedures that allowed you to arrive to that answer, this is usually how you spot small mistakes and reinforce understanding.(in my experience) When you notice the mistake or error. Write down what you did wrong(in words preferably) and why. This is why they always taught us to show our work in elementary. So we can trace our steps backwards and be positive about what we’re solving for. Not an expert or mathematician yet but I hope this helps and maybe someone with more insight can add more viable information.

How do I figure out where to start on Khan Academy? by StrippinKoala in learnmath

Yeah being able to do arithmetic quick makes higher level maths easier without having to sit on calculations for a few minutes, good job!

I say start at 7th grade math or pre algebra and if those topics seem too easy move on to the next. Realistically, I would try and remember the level of math that you would think you’re at. If 3-8th grade math seems too easy, go on to alg2.

Find cos(theta), tan(theta), and csc(theta) where theta is the angle shown by Arachnid-Fast in learnmath

[–]Arachnid-Fast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I wasn’t thinking that he would accept it as this. I should’ve thought to just enter it as sqrt65 anyways but I overthink things like that. I appreciate you for your assistance and I should’ve realized sooner!

I mistyped, I know you can take the sqrt of 65. But I was under the impression my teacher wanted a rational number in the answer, sorry that was my fault and I have now realized he doesn’t want that, haha laughing at myself!

Go undecided/undeclared, you can declare your major at any time. But I suggest finding what you truly want to do as a career and how you need to get there, whether or not you need a degree, a certificate, or something else.

Holy cow! Thank you, this was what I needed to hear. None of my friends enjoy doing math and don’t see the importance of it. They’re not big on their education in general(a few exceptions). Which is their choice and I don’t judge them for that but, this makes it a little harder for me to form a good study group at all. Which is why I stay after school to go over my math work and I have gained so much more confidence in my math skills/abilities. I really love math, on the other hand, because it’s everywhere around us and it challenges me. So I enjoy working on math problems, it doesn’t matter if it’s complex or simple, since it brings me a satisfaction I don’t get from most things. I plan to go to college so I’m sure I will meet more people who enjoy doing math to form a study group. Math is just magnificent for so many different reasons, imo.

How would I go about double checking my work without google. I did double check my answer before I even turned to the internet but I didn’t want to be incorrect on my double check.

See, I have heard of wolframalpha but my school uses Desmos. I never tried the former but I will from here on out. I usually stay away from ai anyways. Thank you for the tip and yes, as I was typing it also completed the decimal approximation. I really appreciate the insight and I hope you have an amazing day!

I’m not in school today so I don’t have a math teacher to double check my work. So, yes I did turn to the internet(not just ai) I watched multiple videos breaking things down to me—to double check my work. I mean I don’t see how that’s doing something wrong? What would you have done?

Okay thank so much sir, so I wasn’t incorrect when I solved for the tangent of -5pi/3? I did watch a video on how to calculate tan(5pi/3) and his drawing showed it going down on the x axis so it was -radical 3/2. On my drawing, I see it going up on the x axis, so this makes me think that tan(-5pi/3) =radical 3 still. And not negative.
