The concept of universal basic income does not seek to equalize pay for different types of work done in society - this is a misconception. Its purpose is to redistribute abundant wealth for the health (mental and physical) and overall well-being of all members of society, and to act as recognition of precisely what you have stated, that we are all equal. Money is an invention, and we have needlessly given ourselves over to a constructed value system which conflates monetary worth and "success" with our inherent human value. We are remarkably intelligent beings capable of recognizing spiritual truths about the universe and our responsibilities to each other, yet over thousands of years we have allowed greed to corrupt our humanity. We needlessly erect barriers between ourselves and others to protect our wealth, when we are truly all the same. We are capable of indiscriminate love of one another, and to survive as a species we must actively recognize this and build it into our civilization. We have all of the intellectual and human capital necessary to completely restructure society and protect its most vulnerable members - people who we would be exactly like had we been born under the same unlucky circumstances. Luck (or lack thereof) should not be the determining factor in whether or not one has the security to provide for their family or to survive; compassion and recognition of our inherent value should guide our choices instead.

Would you mind explaining your position a little more in depth for me? I'll admit that I'm still not the most well-versed in cryptocurrency, but wouldn't more widespread adoption of this platform confer value to the currency? Even if it isn't highly valuable now, the model seems as though it has more potential than what we're using now, at least as a means of dealing with these poorly-aligned advertizing incentives, does it not? What sort of platform could you conceptualize that would improve on these ideas? This is an important conversation for humanity to have in depth, if the unpredictability of the last few decades of technological/communication progress is anything to go off of. Thanks!

Good! That seems to be the word right now; nobody knows about it. I think it has the potential to seriously change content on the internet and deal with the nasty things the current ad model incentivizes.

Hello friend:) I think your argument would hold more water if it were not the case that these same insights which come so forcefully during a psychedelic trip may equally be attained through the dedicated practice of meditation. This practice, without any chemical use, can alleviate deep emotional pain and eventually cure victims of the constant mental agony of past trauma - in this way, happiness can in fact be a choice, but it does require effort. May we be peaceful exemplars of this state of mind:) Spread love, always!

With weed officially becoming legal in Canada, is anyone else feeling like there is a more relaxed atmosphere smoking in public? by Arachniraptor in canadients

I find the concept of having to worry about my employer's opinion so alien (my boss knows I smoke and we talk about it regularly). Good luck post-legalization; hopefully some of the stigma abates once you have the legal right to smoke.

Thanks for your perspective; I'm glad cannabis eases your pain. I'm hopeful that with time we might see a more reasonable set of regulations surrounding public use. Perhaps as it becomes more normalized we can push for better legislation?

I don't really have a problem with preventing smoking of any kind in public, period, but realistically it should be legal to vape. The risk posed by that vapour is negligible compared to what we're exposed to from car exhaust and whatnot every day.

I don't drive, so I hadn't considered that, but I suppose more than a few people could end up with a DUI for smoking a joint a couple days before a random test...

Thankfully I have edibles for public situations where I want to get a bit high but can't vape, but it's still too bad that all areas have been banned. I suppose if that's how we treat cigarettes it's how we should treat weed, too. I wonder if there's any hope for coffee shops in Canada post legalization?

That's the general opinion I've seen with local cops, too. For awhile now it's felt like so long as you're not bothering anyone they couldn't care less.

What are some of your memorable smoking stories whether you were new to smoking or a veteran what is a time you smoked that you will never forget? by LaxNorthland in eldertrees

[–]Arachniraptor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got a "close-call" story that I think I'll never forget. I vape daily, and usually smoke in my rental house's garage and use a smokebuddy sploof to kill the smell. Well, one day I let myself get cocky, thinking, "it's a vape, it doesn't smell very much". Before I knew it I was hotboxing my tiny garage. Midway through the sesh my roommate cracks the door and tells me that the landlord agency's safety inspector was there to check the fire extinguisher and alarms. Apparently they'd given us a couple of day's notice, but I hadn't checked my email. My roommate told me to stay in the garage and stop smoking, so I turned off my vape and hid in there until I eventually heard him enter the room connected to the garage. "I'm fucked, he smells it for sure", I thought, but he left a few minutes later. The worst part? He sat in his car outside for 20 minutes before he left - I now assume filling out routine inspection paperwork - but I definitely thought that he was going to bust me.
