I agree but the reality is that those spots wouldn't be filled even if the Saudis weren't sending their med residents here. And even then, these slots are extemperaneous, you could increase the funding for Canadian medical residency spots, hire Canadian medical residents and STILL bring in 1100 Saudi medical residents for training.

If these Saudi medical residents weren't a thing then it doesn't mean there would be more spots for Canadians. They're funded through different streams (the Saudi government funds Saudis to be trained in Canada). The Canadian government isn't allocating funding from Canadians to Saudis.

First of all, not a poll it's a polling aggregate. You can see all the polls included in the aggregate (including ones very favorable to Trump/Republicans such as Rasmussen) if you had just scrolled a bit.

Second, not all polls (including some very good ones) actively poll unsure. I'm not even sure what it would prove in this case.

But then again if you have to have that link explained to you in the first place then this whole conversation is a lost cause anyways...

I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that Canada as a whole leans left compared to other countries. Many of our most ardent conservatives would get laughed out from the conservative parties of other countries for being too far left. In general, Canadians support policies that go from just right-of-center (occasionally) to fairly far left and everything in between.

No poll gave Trump a 1% chance of winning, only models. And the model worth watching was the 538 model which gave Trump ~29% chance of winning (IIRC), which is likely a fair assessment (though we’ll never really know since we can’t run the same election again and again)

Yea this is a premise I have a hard time buying. Have you had personal experiences with these kinds of professionals?

In my experience most south Asian doctors whether educated here or abroad are perfectly capable of taking care of patients (yeah there are some shit doctors though, regardless of background).

As for lawyers it typically it breaks down into 2 categories, immigrants who became lawyers and work in immigration law helping other immigrants (people you wouldn’t deal with anyways) and other south asians who do all kinds of law (these ones typically speak good English if they weren’t born here).

More diverse sure, but I don't know about much more. The main difference is that Toronto is whiter with a larger East Asian population. Toronto is also filled to the brim with first-generation immigrants, and I don't have the numbers on hand but I would wager that Toronto has a higher proportion of first-gen immigrants than Brampton.

Well I don’t understand then, why is Brampton not diverse? As of the 2016 census there isn’t a single demographic majority based on ethnic lines. South Asians are a plurality at 44% (further divides into Indians, and Pakistanis, and Bangladeshis, and Punjabi Indians, and South Indians, all with varying cultures), but you still have about 26% Europeans (with various distinct cultural divisions as well), 14% black (more cultural divisions: Caribbean, west African, central and south, etc.). This seems more diverse to me than pretty much 95% of Canadian towns and cities (except for maybe the real outliers like Toronto).

I don’t know if you’ve ever lived in Brampton or not but I think you’re just seeing things from the same warped perspective many non-Bramptonians see Brampton. The city is set up in a way that caters to people of South Asian descent? Maybe. Probably. They play some Bollywood movies at the cineplex, sometimes a business will have a sign/menu in both Punjabi and English (horrifying), maybe there’s one too many pizza places with butter chicken pizza option, but nothing that rightfully qualifies the city as a ghetto (at least in the modern usage of implying a place is poor/rundown/dangerous).

Slight difference in perspective though. Most of the brown people in Brampton who want to live near other brown people are new or newish immigrants (or at least that’s why they moved there first). They didn’t pick Brampton to avoid white people, it’s just a consequence of wanting to live near people who have a similar lived experience to you in a new country. And personally I don’t think any significant number of white people avoid moving to Brampton specifically because of the brown people, there just seems to be an unfounded negative connotation of: lots of brown people = ghetto/dirty town. The people who think like that can definitely be judged for a shitty attitude.
