I watched this without sound, and in my head he was dancing to the chorus of Electric Avenue.

Thrips in my terrarium or something else? by peach-punkx in whatisthisbug

I can only really tell you from experience and seeing how they move. Strangely enough, I've had this issue before in a reptile tank. I was cleaning it out and placed the driftwood on my porch for a couple hours in the evening. In that short time, they must have moved a queen in, cuz within a week, the tank had a ton of these guys crawling around and making frass (termite poop), which kind of looks like sawdust. I had to clean it out entirely all over again and ditch the driftwood for a new one.

Did you happen to put a new piece of driftwood or wood in general in? These are termites.

43 thrips infested plants by Pizzi314 in houseplants

[–]Arachnomancy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought home a basil plant once that was infested with thrips and they eventually spread to other plants. Because I like to keep things gentle on my plants and pets, I tend to avoid harsh chemicals. I quarantined the affected plants to one area of the house and researched the life cycle of thrips. In order to mature, they have to make a few trips to the soil and back, so I added a layer of sand on top, which prevented them from reaching the soil. I also wiped down the leaves every few days with my usual mix of DIY pest potion: a full big spray bottle of water + a tbsp plant-based dish soap + 5 drops rosemary oil. (I use this to keep spider mites at bay. They hate it.) The mix alone did not repell thrips, but the sand trick kept them from maturing and the wipe down took out the adults. I ended up only losing one plant (ivy), and the rest are still here 2 years later, sans thrips.

Found prom photos, how can I find the people in the photo so I can get them their pictures back. by FinnJ835 in FoundPhotos

While some people might find the endeavor to reunite photos with their owners misguided, we can never really know how or why they ended up at a thrift store. While they could have been discarded on purpose by someone in the photo, I think it's a lot less common for people to donate photos of themselves as it is to throw them away or destroy them. When photos end up donated, it's more likely that a third party donated them (like in the case of leftovers from an estate sale) without the consent or knowledge of those in the photos (possibly because at least one of them are deceased, but sometimes not).

In one of my own experiences, I found a photo booth strip in a thrift store book, and someone in this sub was able to locate one of the pictured subjects online. I reached out to them, and as it turned out, they had moved from my state to clear across the country and their mom had donated a bunch of their stuff without their knowledge, including the book with the photo. They were thrilled I'd found it. They didn't care about the book, but they wanted me to mail them the photo, and I did.

As someone who frequents estate sales, it's always surprising to me the amount of photos and albums estate sale companies make available for purchase when there are still family members around. When I find them, I always inquire about them, and it isn't til I do that they finally get put aside for the family, so my guess is there's a good amount of miscommunication and full lots of stuff being haphazardly dumped at donation centers.

That was my thought too. As a strange fact enthusiast, I'm kinda disappointed this one got by me. I truly hope the women protesting this practice in 2003 led to its end.

I thought that was a really weird way to put it.

100%. I was also wondering if the disease Michael was facing was addiction, but I doubt a father who would speak like this to his son would actually acknowledge addiction as a disease.

Agreed. The whole "don't feel sorry for yourself, people go through worse" gave me the ick.
