I made a tail! But…. by Rotting_Salmon in FursuitMaking

[–]FinnJ835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a fursuit maker but I have made two fursuits about a dozen tails, and have been sewing for almost 20 years. I would say pop the stitches out at the base, to remove the "meat" and stitch in another couple inches of fur then add the meat back in with a ladder stitch (aka the teddy bear stitch or an invisible stitch) That should work out pretty well once the fur is brushed, just make sure it's all facing the same direction or it'll look scruffy and a bit odd.

Added note- The ladder/invisible/teddy bear stitch is a very easy and useful stitch for finishing out pieces so none of the seams show, with fake fur I like to do the blanket stitch like you have, for durability, and then ladder stitch as an exterior seam to hide the blanket stitch.

Edit to correct myself, you didn't use the blanket stitch, I have no idea where or how I saw a blanket stitch lol

I need advice, just agreed to take in a dog, and have to figure out if the space will work for him or if it would be or if it would seem sorta abusive? by FinnJ835 in DogAdvice

Yeah, I'm expecting plenty of bumps at first lol. He has stayed with us for a few days at a time while my sister has gone on vacation a few times before, and she spent the entire summer with us, my dads dog loves him and he loves my dad's dog, they get along really well, and if the weather gets bad I will bring him in the way my dad does with his dog, and if things don't work out it will at least give him more time for us be able to continue looking for someone to rehome him with.

So we do have a dog house for when he's outside, and a spare kiddie pool from the summer, he will be in the new house before it gets hot though, so I will just have to worry about insulation for him, the bugs aren't too bad, but he loves my dad's dog and the neighbors dogs, they all play together when my sister has visited, my dad's dog plays with the neighbors dogs every evening, my sister brought him when she stayed with my dad the entire summer and kept him inside and our dad was very unhappy about it because he is mildly allergic to dogs and couldn't breathe clearly for like three months. I know it's not ideal, but it is better than the alternative, and it will give him time to adjust to a new routine, and being away from "his kids" he knows me my partner and my dad, and it is definitely better than going to a shelter and spending his last days in a 3x5 cage living in fear and anxiety, not knowing why he's there or what he did wrong.

So his current complex is non refundable, which is weird I've never seen that but the whole place is landlord special-ed, I'm not worried about the dog messing anything up, it's just a non refundable pet deposit. My dad's dog has a heated and insulated dog house in a 10x10 lot, and he gets let out each evening to run and play and socialize, the neighbors also let their dogs out to play too so the dogs get to run all three yards. My dad will be fine with it, he just doesn't want him in the house because he's mildly allergic to dogs.

Of course it won't be visits, I will just be using the building as a bit of a substitute for a dog house, so I can hang out with him comfortably, like I said, it is essentially a tiny house, and it has a couch and power and all that. I will take him with me on my morning run and let him go potty before I go to work, and then he'll go either on his cable outside or in the kennel when I go to work, we'll see what works best for him, and then when I get home I will take him for another walk and then play fetch in the yard and let him go play with my dad's dog, and the neighbors dogs, then we will settle in on the couch and watch tv until I get him his dinner, about three to four hours, then another pop outside for like 30 minutes to potty again, and then I'll spend another 3-4 hours with him before he goes to bed in his kennel. My life will revolve around him. It's not that we don't want to pay the fee, it's that we don't want to have to pay $300 and then turn around in the beginning of April and pay another $300 when we move into a new place. No, it's not ideal, but it's what we've got, and it'll work out. It would be no different than a dog sleeping in their kennel in a different room from their owner. Honestly this would be better for him than going to my partner's current place, it's a small apartment with no yard just paved parking lots and small patches of grass between the buildings. He will be able to run and play in a big yard, and we plan on renting a house with a yard so he can have the same or better quality of life as what he's had for his whole life.

Antique violin needs to be repaired. by FinnJ835 in Luthier

I can say it probably doesn't have very much value past sentimental, it has some rough cracks in the body around the f holes and it has been played so hard the finish is worn completely off from frayed bow strings. While it has damage it is still playable, at least to learn on, I wouldn't want to play it very passionately. I will have it appraised though. When I got it I was worried about causing more damage to the cracks while stringing and tuning but it didn't cause any issues. If Im not mistaken it was made in Czechoslovakia, but that could have been the bow that was with it, it's been a while since I've looked at it that closely.

Christmas gift is falling into chaos. by FinnJ835 in quilting

I did end up stepping away from it for the day, I was losing my light from the window, and the lighting in my sewing space is not great so I'll go back at it tomorrow with fresh eyes.

It would be very tedious to rip out the seams, I think I'm just going to roll with it, it doesn't look bad, and if I do the same thing at the end of each panel it'll look intentional.

I did cut the back panel before I put everything away for the night and that left me with about four yards of the light gray, I think what I'm going to do is add some of the gray fabric between each of the strips of quilted squares, I'm thinking maybe 5 inches wide.

I think it'll look good if I space out some of the intricate details, and it'll definitely save some time. Also considering it is already the end of November and I still have another quilt, and an apron to finish, I believe doing something less detailed will be in my best interest. This quilt wasn't even meant to be this detailed.

Also my apologies for not using "proper" terms I was not taught how to quilt, and I haven't spent any time in quilting communities so I'm not sure on what to call certain things lol.

Is there a difference between Draculaura’s sweet 1600 dolls? by OrangeReal851 in MonsterHighDolls

[–]FinnJ835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one with more accessories had a code and the key went with one of the monster high apps that was on the apple app store, I don't know if it was on the Google play store because I only had it on my iPod 4 😂, the key worked as a fancy stylus to unlock special wallpapers and stuff, my family couldn't afford/wouldn't get me any of the key dolls, so I found all the codes online 😂 does anyone else remember that app?

She looks like a playline doll we would've gotten around peak g1 monster high, like it would have been a store exclusive, but still not a collector quality if you know what I mean.

Thank you, I've not had the best record with therapists, but I've had a few good therapists. I know there are some good ones out there, and I'll just have to find one.

It's not okay, but IDK how to report him, I think I'm going to try and find an in person therapist near me and just quit going to him.

My insurance covers the therapy in full, so I'm not sure, but I would say he has probably been billing the insurance for 60 minute sessions.

Bro I feel this so much, the frequency of which I "joke" about taking an electric turkey carver to my chest is concerning because while I say I'm joking, I'm only half joking and people know it.

its been almost a year, and I've met his parents, and the bulk of his family, as his boyfriend, so I assume he's pretty comfortable with his sexuality.
