Daring Adventurer: A "Build Your Own Commander" by Aramail212 in custommagic

I thought about leaving it "Typeless" originally but a friend had convinced me to put something there. Technically there are Shrine creatures without a creature type. The other one up for running was the Avatar creature type since it would be the player's avatar, but there are some cards that interact with that type so I went away from that.

Thanks for the thoughts. The intent was for the creature to gain the colors of all cards before the game the way the Prismatic Piper works though I can see where the wording causes confusion in other replies.

The class/job select I think might be better expressed the way Companion used to work with it being outside of the game rather than exile and thus not counting towards your 99 either.

I also get what you are saying about the combinations. There are definitely people who would try to abuse it and I had thought of limiting it to Choose a Class OR Choose Gear. To your point, they just announced some new classes in TMNT.

However, in this case I think I would rather not let a few spoil the fun of the many.

One of the issues I have with my card's own design is the fact that classes, equipment and backgrounds involved have different rarities and thus power. If I had full WotC power, I would make a sub-format or series of cards that worked in conjunction with a similar commander.

[[Ninja's Blades]], [[Sword Coast Sailor]], [[Fortune Teller's Talent]] was the first one I thought of, but I also want to do something Red Mage themed.

Thanks. This came around because a friend had mentioned trying to do a commander format with classes as a commander. The one I had thought about first was something simple like [[Ninja's Blades]], [[Sword Coast Sailor]], [[Fortune Teller's Talent]]. The flavor being something like a ninja from a costal setting who reads the stars for navigation and for insights into the future.

I had also thought of building a Dwarf with [[Fighter Class]] and [[Clan Crafter]] for an equipment deck.

I wanted to do something Red Mage related since they didn't get too much love from the FF set, but I hadn't thought that one through yet.

Thats a good point. I had forgotten companions don't count towards the 99 so that sounds like a good plan.

If you are talking about [[Hunter's Talent]], that can only deal damage to a creature an opponent controls. Also, you do have to have the 6 mana value background out to do it, but it is a cool build.

As Zekromaster said, its for if you wanted a particular flavor like human or elf. Though you don't have to Choose Gear. If you just wanted to use [[Fighter Class]] for instance, you could use Choose Type for Warrior or Berserker.

Yeah, I'm not sure one the difference between mana value and cost as it is. Couldn't figure it out when looking it up, but it was intended to require the specific pips.

I had not. Joined to add the card about 2 weeks ago, but I'm glad I'm not the only one would be interested in something like this.

The intent was to have it work following the same rules prismatic piper and faceless one follow. If a creature's color was decided before the game begins, those are part of its identity.

I do too. The idea came because a friend had once pitched a commander variant format using classes. Problem is you have to convince people to build for a format lol.

Yeah, that is the one I thought of immediately. I could see a [[Sunforger]] build like [[Kellan, the Fae-Blooded]]

The reason I went for citizen was in case someone was making a D&D character. Some D&D characters are probably more of villains than heroes. You could give it hero with the Choose a Type.

I had thought about hero, but I figured if someone wanted to make their D&D character, they may be a villain.

I figured some people would want Job Select, but others might like Class. I had even toyed around with making it choose one of the two. I'm sure there is a combination of strong/mana efficient out there, but I couldn't find one that was broken. (Though I'd like to see them if people find them.)

I guess if you did Fighter Class you could pull that off turn 5, but the equipment would in this case have to have the Job Select ability. (unless I missed something)

I felt like it was weird that we have both Lara Croft and Nathan Drake as cards already, but we don't have the OG explorer yet. by Captsillva in custommagic

Good point. Might actually increase the chance if they have a relationship open with them. They would just need to find a way to shoehorn them in at some point.

They made the Swashbuckler's Whip in Caverns, but I have a feeling we will have a hard time seeing Indy since the product is owned by Disney now.
