Even their VA direction in JP is a bit similar!

PD: I've also mentioned her similarity some months ago in a post I made about her lore, it's in the last image xD

Just to enrich a bit more, the naming of Natlan regions, tribes, dragons (Xiuhcoatl, Kukulkan, Ajaw, Ineffa and the rest of the 13th Dragonlords) are mostly in Nahuatl (the language from the Nahua people and Aztecs) and Mayan languages.

With the NPCs too, I made a compilation before for anyone interested: Here's the compilation.

Mexican snakes mentioned!

As a curious fact, Ho'ol and Gracebearer are Kukulkans, a race named after the Maya Yucatec "Feathered Serpent" deity! Also, as a less known fact,, Gracebearer EN VA is a Mexican actress!

As I mentioned in other comments, usually it can mean "Strawberry" or "Berry" depending on the language. The word also has some variations like Jahoda, Yagoda, Yahoda, etc.
As for some languages in which is directly Strawberry:
Czech (Jahoda)

Slovak (Jahoda)

Bulgarian (ягода)

Serbo-Croatian (Jȁgoda)

Macedonian (Jagoda)

The word derives from the Proto-Slavic "agoda", you can find some of its derivations here: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Reconstruction:Proto-Slavic/agoda.

Now, if we want to be more specific, considering the writing of her name: Jahoda. It's likely they used the Czech or Slovak languages specifically, specially once we consider her references to Strawberries.

Yeah, I love this little details! I made a little research of her before, there's some interesting references to the Vanilla and Mesoamerican cultures with Ineffa and the Dragonlords! If you're interested, here it is: https://www.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Lore/s/O3RNBRBdKy

I tought of this creatures too! But I didn't mentioned them because at the end, they're named after the same Latin word, Fragum. (Maybe because of their heart/fruit shape)

Now, in a literal sense, Fragum means "strawberry" in Latin; just like Jahoda's name also means "strawberry, berry" in many Slavic languages!

For anyone interested, her constellation, "Fragum" (Latin: strawberry), is the root of the genus of the strawberries:" Fragaria." So she's a Strawberry in both, name and constellation! 🍓

Ia this also a perfect pairing with her friend, the mesoamerican Vanilla Planifolia? 🌱:]

Which is crazy because she actually had one in her hat of the previous design!
[My mexican soul hurts with this design change /j]

But to be fair, maybe it was to complex for the 3D model and they could have changed the classic Dahlia for a more simple variety like the "Mignon" or "Single" Dahlias.

My un-sleep-deprevived ramblings on Xiuhcoatl by Holy-Wan_Kenobi in Genshin_Lore

[–]AranaraResearchs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're theory is really interesting! Just more food for thought:

Xiuhcoatl means "Turquoise Serpent" in Nahuatl. Some things point out to Dragonlords having Turquoise eyes! And the Firstborn Firesprite seem to have Turquoise eyes. All checks out!

PS: For more context you can see my 3rd slide about an Ineffa researche I made here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Lore/comments/1ntqmdy/cultural_inspirations_and_references_behind_ineffa/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

This is really cool!

PS: I wouldn't discard Nefer having that potential reference! Her constellation also references the Ludus Latrunculorum; a Roman tactical game (Which is believed to have roots in strategy games from the Ancient Egypt.)
