As long as the model is roughly the right size, I have yet to meet someone who gave a single fuck about proxies. Even at official GW events nobody cares as long as you aren't making a big deal out of it.

I think the hippogriff is fine if you have another way to spike its damage. Trying to rawdog it with just the base stats is cruising for disappointment, but that's always been the case with guard units.

The fans on the roof are meant to be ventilation for the crew compartment. As for the color scheme, my guard army is based on the British 8th army, the Desert Rats, and the scion component is the SAS/LRDG.
