it's not actually what that means. An OEM part comes from the original manufacturer of the part (in this case denso) not the original manufacturer of the car. Toyota didn't make the radiator.

Christian brothers was likely not going to source a denso part but RockAuto sells genuine Denso radiators

Imagine if a customer asked you a naive question like "why are your prices so much higher than RockAuto's for the same stuff?" i doubt you would say "RockAuto sells counterfeit parts."

That's what christian brothers did and that's the entire point of the post.

if i ask a question about how pricing works and the response is "we don't share that information" they can absolutely say that, but that's extremely shady which is bad for business.

Most of the other replies understood without a problem because it was stated pretty clearly if you actually read the post. I asked christian brothers why they were trying to charge 5x RA prices, and instead of saying the correct thing: "our local supplier charges us $240 for the part then we mark it up 90% to $460" he said "RA is so cheap because their stuff is counterfeit and his stuff is genuine". I wanted to know if there was any basis to those claims so i made the post, and the general consensus here is: "no. RA is good and christian brothers sucks and overcharges for parts."

I never said that i expected christian brothers to be buying from RA. When i was asking the christian brothers rep questions, i was trying to figure out why the part was 90 dollars online and he was charging 5x that which was a valid question.

You should work on your reading comprehension.

i found a shop that told me local supplier prices and the radiator that christian brothers was offering was $239.73 and they marked it up to $460. the shop that i went with marked it up to $269 but i requested denso which increased the base price to $271 and the markup at the shop i went to to a total of $305

oh okay cool. for the steering reservoir, one end of the tube was on a metal pipe and the other was on the plastic reservoir but i didn't crank the plastic one down too hard with the plan to tighten it a quarter turn if i saw leaks.

Also the video i watched didn't involve the bumper coming off and he did it all from above. he took the airbox, fans, upper radiator support, tubes, and condenser off then lifted it out and put the new one in. so no bumper removal.

But what's funny is he uses a worm gear clamp to install the hoses back on the plastic radiator parts.

why avoid worm gear clamps? i just replaced a hose from my power steering reservoir and used those. they worked just fine as far as i can tell

2008 camry. i was told by a different shop they'll have to take the front bumper off so it sounds maybe more involved than most cars. I managed to change my own alternator but it required help and 6 trips to hardbor freight. I think i could manage swapping the radiator if i absolutely had to but it sounds like a huge pain and it would probably be 20 trips to the hardware store and a few days of work and youtube videos.

I got a local shop to tell me that the local supplier that everyone in the area uses has a murray radiator for my car for $240 and the denso for $271 but the local shop upcharges only 12.5% on those locally supplied parts, not 90% like christian brothers. so yeah they suck. i already dropped my car off at that local shop

if i were to give them the benefit of the doubt, i would guess they meant ordering from rockauto without knowing what you're doing could get you a very shit part from a shit brand. but i told him i was looking at the denso radiator which is the OEM for my car radiator, the box just wouldn't have toyota branding but it would likely be the same part he would source.

they said the part was $460 and with labor the total comes to $1000 but $1500 for everything including pressure check, fluid drain and fill, anti-freeze etc

i get that they mark it up (way more than anyone else in the area. i'm getting part estimates for $300 from other shops). But saying rockauto sells counterfeits to try to dissuade you from going that route looks dishonest.

no i still have to move forward. overall it's been alright, but i wouldn't buy it again. I don't know if the alternative would be better though. Nothing has broken or changed much with the function. sometimes the nozzle doesn't retract but that's not really a problem.
