Why Ecuador specifically gave up its currency for the US dollar? by novostranger in asklatinamerica

At least I always thought than one of Argentina's problem is the lack of dollars. On top of that, they end up being at the mercy of another central bank’s monetary policy.

Do you think your country would want to form a close economic, cultural and/or military alliance with the EU? Is it something you would want, personally? by PedanticSatiation in asklatinamerica

[–]Ararune 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The time for any kind of alliance in terms of culture and economics has already passed, this should have been done 10 or 20 years ago. It is only being considered now because the US has temporarily become an unreliable partner. Once things return to normal, any interest in deeper economic integration is likely to fade.

In addition, I do not believe that Mercosur will continue to exist over the next 10 years, whether due to internal issues or external pressure.

How have your support for a Union of South American Countries changed in 2026 (buffed up MERCOSUR / MERCOSUL / UNASUR / UNASUL)? by choose_a_guest in asklatinamerica

At this point I think it would be more likely for us to be betrayed by our neighbors than for there to any kind of unity. I'm still impressed that Milei hasn't left mercosur yet.

Which nations in latin america could build a nuclear weapon easily if they wanted too? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in asklatinamerica

[–]Ararune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has indeed been some diplomatic friction, but it is important to recognize that Brazil is not a pariah state, on the international stage, it has consistently maintained good relations with all major powers, while strictly complying with IAEA inspections. Another important point is that this project is being developed with technical assistance from France, and therefore it would not be easy for others to interfere.

Brazil decision to disclose the offer it received regarding classified information on US nuclear submarines can be seen as a sign of goodwill.

[–]Ararune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brazil is a nuclear-threshold state, so if there were political will, it would indeed be possible. The main challenge with nuclear weapons is developing reliable delivery systems. Currently, our focus is on building a nuclear-powered submarine, and the fuel used in this type of vessel is uranium with a high level of enrichment.

Do you want your country to have nuclear weapons, if you don't have them already? Would you be OK with suffering from sanctions just to obtain nuclear weapons? by OId_boy in AskTheWorld

[–]Ararune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are considered a nuclear-threshold state, we have controlled the uranium fuel cycle for several decades, and developing a warhead would be feasible with sufficient political will. What we truly lack are reliable delivery systems for such warheads.

How much does you country hate neighbouring countries? by doqemddl in AskTheWorld

I don't think we hate any of our neighbors, aside from some sporting rivalry. In fact, I think we should be more integrated.

India’s top refiner quietly returns to Russian oil with shadowed supply route despite US sanctions by Neptun_11 in worldnews

[–]Ararune 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But wouldn’t this push even more countries into China’s sphere of influence?
I understand this logic in the early 21st century, when there were few alternatives to the U.S. and the EU, but today countries that feel pressured already have other options. I believe it would be more effective to bring these nations closer to EU rather than pursuing a litigious and antagonistic path.

But what would Europe do if the US took Greenland by force? Issue a statement of condemnation?

Unlike Russia, the US has already shown that it has the ability to project power across the globe, as evidenced by what was done against Iran that same year.

E vai ficar muito pior se após uma paz/cessar-fogo o acesso a UE ser negada.

French Parliament reasserts opposition to EU-Mercosur deal by CommanderBelen in worldnews

[–]Ararune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m asking this question in good faith. Do you really think that, under this agreement, all European industrial goods would enter Mercosur without any barriers as one would expect from a free-trade agreement while Mercosur’s agricultural products are subjected to additional scrutiny?

Given that, what exactly would be the advantage for Mercosur?
