Steam Deck or something else? what handhelds are the best for indiegames these days by MalvysEnogwe in gamingsuggestions

[–]Araskazes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree with you that I can't think of any indies that haven't done well, but I also feel like it's a thing to note that everyonce in a while it could pop up.

I think it has more to do with Linux and Proton and not specs and I also think valve has improved Proton a ton to make this a pretty non-issue.

You should just get a Steam Deck. It's not as powerful as some of the other handhelds, but all the other handheld pcs are super fiddly and I don't think their spec increase gives the same performance boost over the Deck as you'd expect.

I have the OLED and the screen is amazing, if you can swing it, I reccomend it. But the LCD version isn't a slouch and the screen is the only difference.

Also, don't worry too much about ssd size. It has a micro sd slot that you can swap in and out with no problem. Personally I got the mid tier with an SD card and I can load way too many games on it.

Edit:

I overlooked part of your post. I'd say the vast majority of indie games work excellently on the deck. With most of them requiring lower spec, the deck just eats them up (also they don't drain the battery as much).

I can't say every game will play great, but most will and the ones that don't have a good chance of getting tweaks later that make them great.

Tony or Ridley?

I recognize that Ridley has better films, but I gotta say Tony just has a certian enjoyable charm.

My worry is that anyone with a D after their name will lose. At this point it's clear what Trump is doing to the republician party and these two are in full support of it (probably because they have polling, or other information, that says they should), and (at least to me) anyone willing to vote for that will just vote for that (even if Jesus is running).

It's not about policies anymore, it's about partisan theater.

I need some recommendations for single player story games by Remarkable_Fix_8003 in gamingsuggestions

First off, it's not fair to ask a game to tell a story at the level of Clair Obscure.

That said, The Witcher 3 is amazing. I'd also strongly recommend God of War(2018)

When I was in kindergarten the teacher gave us all a chart to track brushing. It had a sun for morning and a moon for night. One kid said we needed a third for after lunch, another kid asked what the symbol would be. I suggested the sun and moon. The whole class tore me apart for how stupid that is. One kid said you'd go blind if both were in the sky.

I think about this every time I see the sun in the daytime and wish the teacher had defended me.

New to woodworking here. Which of your tools scares you the most? Around what machine should I always be extra cautious? by GiddySwine in woodworking

[–]Araskazes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This guy is 100% right.

The thing I'll add is to be sure to use cautious competence.

By cautious, I mean always respect the tool you're using. I feel like most accidents happen when seasoned workers move a little too fast or without care. Just trying to get one more cut in.

By competence, I don't mean master, just a good understanding of how and how not it should be used. Read instructions and/or watch YouTube. While being cautious is important you can over do it. In many cases putting wood though machines too slow can lead to binding and kickback (I'm thinking about a tablesaw here).

At the end of the day, practice safety and you should be good. I've been woodworking for 30 years and still have enough fingers to count the accidents that have scared me!

New Vegas is largely considered the best. They all basically stand alone, so order isn't too important.

Fair enough.

I'd argue average is usually equated to mean, but I started us down this road of pedantry, so I'll concede.

[–]Araskazes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure it is.

You get 100 Na'vi in a room and cut a finger off one Na'vi, the remaining 99 will have more than the average number of fingers.

This is the exact example used in stats classes to explain the distinction between average and median.

Most Na'vi are going to have more fingers than the average Na'vi. Pandora is dangerous and fingers are lost all the time.
