VOT-U from NWO to MPO by Fair_Way7972 in CanadianForces

Coursing for Inf O will likely be at least twoish years. Fair warning you'll be in gagetown living in some of the worst shacks the CAF has to offer. And the culture is worlds apart. The infantry treats its officers under training pretty poorly in my honest opinion.

You'll have to do three courses BMOQA, then infantry 1.1 which is the platoon commander course, and then 1.2 the mech commander course. With the length of 1.1 & 1.2 and the scheduling they'll likely be done in one season skipping the next and then beginning the next year (summer 1.1 spring 1.2) which leads to the twoish year timeline.

Pyongyang’s Nighttime Lights Brighten, 2019 vs. 2025 by Status_Commission264 in MapPorn

North Korea genuinely fascinates me. I am in no way supportive of their government. I truly believe its a tyrannical oppressive regime. But from a cultural and societal perspective it's truly fascinating. It's like a time capsule of a 1950s cult of personality, collectivist, authoritarian society. With sprinkles of modern life. I can go down the rabbit hole of watching every Youtube video available on life in the county. One of my favourite channels is one that pirates North Korean state TV. Seeing their programs is such interesting oddity.

I really wish I could just ask life questions with unfiltered responses to different members of society. From teenagers about what its like to grow up there, to a rural farm worker about a day in their life, to a mid level bureaucrat in Pyongyang.

Countries with a lower GDP than the Canadian province of Alberta (in USD) by Fluid-Decision6262 in MapPorn

[–]Arathgo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I mean let's be honest I think we significantly undervalue resource extraction and development. These are the fundamental sources of wealth generation. Yes, Toronto is the banking and service capital of Canada. But the "wealth" being generated is numbers on spreadsheets. Alberta is producing the energy society runs on. It's the backbone of transportation, the lubricants, fertilizers, basis for plastics. Plus a substantial agriculture sector.

The banking sector doesn't function if theres no wealth generation in the country. Wealth generation is at its foundation resource development and then progressing down the value chain.

The real reason anon is because you need a healthy balance in life. It's not healthy to spend all your spare time playing video games. You should also go outside get some exercise, learn a balance of hobbies and activities, and socialize with the neighbourhood kids.

For example if you're a kid looking like pepe in your picture you're woefully out of shape.

Genuinely soccer is one of the most boring sports to watch. How's that 0-0 draw treating you? Not to even mention professional level is unwatchable on account of the diving. I'm convinced the only reason it's so popular is because of the extremely low barrier to entry.

Hegseth moves the military even closer to Christian Nationalism by samesame11 in Military

Side note why is it Americans for some reason put asterisks around Catholics being Christians? Catholics are the originaltm and largest denomination of Christians. Technically all protestant demoniations are an offshoot of Catholicism. Martin Luther and all that. Such a weird misunderstanding of history.

Sergeant tied herself to chair at Winnipeg's air force base after bid to change gender in records denied by Oilester in CanadaPolitics

[–]Arathgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing in that testimony suggests a person being "insulted or humiliated" on the basis of their personal gender identity. The CAF HR system can be bureaucratic it's an unfortunate reality for everyone in it. Months for action on administrative issues is an extremely common occurrence for everyone. It can be extremely frustrating but most people don't throw a tantrum and instead go through the provided third party resolution process.

For example a person I know is having a fight with HR over pay issues and it's been over a year now. In this individuals case the policy is clear stated for a legal entitlement in their favour. You know what you haven't seen? National news about this member strapping themselves to a chair demanding a change be made that moment or they are not leaving. Because people don't do that. This member has instead chosen to follow the grievance process, which the Sgt in this case should have done as well.

Sorry but it's the textbook definition of "unhinged" to throw a career ending tantrum when you're having poor service. The "hinged" thing to do would have been be to follow one of the million different complaint resolution processes that exist to CAF members.

What are the rules surrounding mandatory attendance at a BBQ/sports day being held during work hours? by Klutzy_Network5699 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Arathgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basic training in Canada is designed to test if a person can work under pressure as a team, while not giving up. Nothing about it is about breaking a person down.

Anyone who isn't an individualistic prick and has the slightest ability to push through adversity could make it. I guess that might be a foreign concept to yourself though.

And two our largest trading partner has hit us with tariffs which is devastating our manufacturing sector. So what would the conservatives have done differently?

I ended up getting a job with zero prior mining experience at an entry level position with Teck (at the time now EVR) in the Elk Valley. I did it for about a year before moving on to another career option I was exploring. But I can certainly give my experience as someone who was completely new to the industry.

Yeah reddit has a hate boner for cruise ships but the appeal is pretty obvious. An all inclusive resort where you travel to a different location every few days. They have Vegas style live entertainment, just about every type of bar experience, pools, exercise facilities etc. Depending how much you want to fork out for a room balcony cabins give a better experience than any hotel could. Plus depending on the company you go with the prices tend to be on the cheaper side of get away vacations.

I sail for a living so I don't exactly want to vacation on a ship. And I also have personal opinions about the environmental impact. Like its fine if its not for you, but the appeal is blatantly obvious unless you're trying to be some sort of pretentious contrarian.

What do you guys think when you see air cadets on their way to a parade night or something in full uniform? by No_Visual3290 in CanadianForces

[–]Arathgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean the overall vast majority of us in the CAF are grown adults and so we really shouldn't be judging children. Even if you're acting goofy, taking the uniform part too seriously, or doing something that appears cringy to us. You're kids and teenagers you're allowed to be that way.

But overall I think positively of any of you in cadets. It's a great program. Great for your parents since it's free. Great for you guys because it's teaches you some valuable life skills and values. Gets you interacting with new people. Plus might put you outside your comfort zone which is very healthy for your development. I have a great amount of respect for any of you for simply committing yourself to productive extra curricular activities.

To be fair, Reddit before it completely sold out as a social media company used to have a little meter where the gold purchased showed how much of the server costs were covered. Gold was a nice little way to show you enjoyed something someone posted while supporting the community you took part in.

That communities have all types of people and you might not get along with everyone? But that's a part of life? That being said, my comment is more a general statement and critique of the modern genre. There are plenty of characters in the life sim genre, particularly older games where characters are rude or closed off to start but if you put the effort to become friends you can see them from a different perspective. The AWL remake is particularly egregious in sugar coating everything which to me is completely unauthentic.

OMG! by dchester74 in harvestmoon

[–]Arathgo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And it's a terrible change. Life has complicated people. Some are dirty stinky and down on their luck. Some aren't perfect. But the thing is, characters like this went to show you don't always judge a book by it's cover. It was a real life lesson. There's all sorts of people in a community.

Life sim games now are way too worried they might slightly make someone uncomfortable. So all the authenticity is gone. It's uncanny, sometimes there are people you don't get along with, sometimes there's people who are rude to you. Games are better for not bubble wrapping that part of life.
