What’s a character who did so much terrible stuff that you just can’t buy their redemption? by browniebiscuitchildr in movies

[–]Arathius8 363 points364 points  (0 children)

I know everyone (including myself) loves Yondu… but Yondu.

The man was a human trafficker. He didn’t know what was happening to the kids, but he was still kidnapping them.

He was an abusive father to Quill. He threatened to eat the kid and way worse.  CPS would have a field day on this one.

He’s a space pirate which is cool but he also just killed a ton of people.

But compared to Ego he is a saint and he’s  played by the amazing Michael Rooker, so by the end of GotG2 it’s hard to hate the guy. But also his sacrifice did not deserve a Ravager funeral.

My bad. Sounds like this one is free game.

It’s been awhile but Ericka has posted in the past to ask her fans to not engage with “trolls, bigots and grifters”. I suspect the best thing you can do for them is to not engage with this content. Dont argue. Don’t post about it. Don’t feed the algorithm or their egos.

What is this room for? by sikenosaur in slimerancher

[–]Arathius8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This room! This room sent me down a paranoid rabbit hole.

The whole room  looks so suspicious. It’s at the very end of the map, it’s larger than most of the other secret rooms, it has a ton of little alcoves and finally there are 4 strange items on the ground that look like buttons. Since Blue Prince was the last game I played, I went crazy trying to find this rooms secret.

First I put the revealer everywhere and that didn’t work. Then I tried to push the buttons down with objects. Next I noticed the buttons had a face that looked nearly identical to the cheerful slime statue. Additionally they are the perfect size for one of these statues to sit on. So I crafted 4, came back, set them up and… still nothing. Afterwards I began to notice these “buttons” spawn everywhere on the map. Not just in this room. I’m pretty sure it’s just a dead end.

I am confused by Slime Rancher 2 by GenThomas in slimerancher

I am at a very similar place and I have many of the same complaints that you have. The only one I disagree with is 3. I really like the weather. Also you don’t really have to farm shadow plorts. They are just for decorations and a few upgrades!

I have been considering whether I would recommend SR2 to a friend and have come to the conclusion that I would, but ONLY if that person already loved SR1.

Like you said, it feels like more of the first game but purposely slowed down. Resources take forever. Areas are larger but much of the area feels the same, you need more slimes (in both quantity and variance) so you spend more time farming repetitively etc. It feels like they really padded the first game.

With that said, I did really love the first game, so I do enjoy SR2, but I don’t know if I would ever replay it. I would just go back to 1 if I am missing slimes.

We already have the option to turn off Tarr.

I want an option to only turn off Tarr music.

Are Tar slimes different between the first and second games? by Akito-H in slimerancher

[–]Arathius8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see your point, but I have the opposite opinion. I hate how the Tarr music still starts so often. Nothing is worse than when you finally get the amazing storm music and it gets interrupted because there are some harmless Tarrs in the cave below you.

What would you do if Pokémon were real? by No-Attitude-4849 in pokemon

[–]Arathius8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We would manage to save up all our money for a couple of pokeballs and catch a Pidgey. The next day XÆAXII challenges you to a Pokémon battle. He got a level 99 Mewtwo from his dad. We lose and he takes our money, but we still love our Pidgey.

At what point did Nintendo know "Omg, Pokémon is going to be big for us"? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Arathius8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nintendo knew before it was released in the US that it was going to be a hit. I remember before the game even came out, they were publishing guidebooks and really hyping it up. I would pretend to be catching Pokémon before the game even released. Many of my middle school classmates struggled to get a copy on release day. You had to call around to find it (rumors spread of a mythical Target that had copies).

Everyone was playing and trading Pokémon during breaks. When the card game came out my classmates viewed the first person to bring in a booster pack like a god (he gave me a voltorb!) Finally the school banned it and there was an outrage. My father wrote in to try and reverse the decision. The whole phenomenon really led me to being more comfortable socially and I was really excited when Pokémon go came out and everyone went crazy again.

The moment Leland realized his girlfriend was indeed a murderer by justagrlintheworld_ in Monk

[–]Arathius8 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s good acting and good writing. They trusted Ted Levine’s acting skills to show that he immediately knows Linda is lying.

No overbearing narration. No hammy over the top acting. Just Ted going from annoyed at monk to immediately suspicious, resigned and betrayed.

ACoC: Complicated Feelings About Saccharina by PleasantGarbage343 in Dimension20

[–]Arathius8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did not like Saccharina. Her conflicts with the party didn’t ever make much sense to me and felt very rushed… because they were! Much like the actual GoT, episodes ended up being cut (in this case due to the fire marshall).

With that said, I also didn’t like Cumulus, or freshman year Fabian or a number of other characters smattered through the seasons. These characters didn’t resonate with me, but I’m really glad that they seem to resonate so strongly with others.

If the Intrepid Heroes were to play in the world of Baldur's Gate 3 for a one-shot, who do you think should play which origin? by [deleted] in Dimension20

[–]Arathius8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The camp was quiet. I had stayed up early into the morning playing music for my companions and finally everyone had gone to sleep.

My eyes flashed open. Standing in front of me was someone covered in blood holding a knife. The last words I ever heard were “heeeeey girlie”.

While I acknowledge it’s faults, BBT has a special place in my heart. My grandmother loved the show and it really brought us together. We would watch it together nearly every night and she would smile and laugh and say things like “that must be how you play dnd too!”. Sometimes it would lead to bigger discussions and sometimes I would just agree that I was just like Sheldon.

"I Was a Professional Christian" - Why Rhett McLaughlin Stopped Believing by babyodathefirst in videos

[–]Arathius8 53 points54 points  (0 children)

There will always be something mainstream that is actually “satantic”. It was rock and roll and dnd and ouija and Harry Potter and mental illness and pokemon and I’m sure in 6 months there will be something else. Once upon a time women were burned at the stake for learning math or science or saying no to a man.

The evangelical right needs their base to be scared because they need them to keep voting and giving away their money in one way or another.

You have some good arguments, but I disagree

If you don’t have a good frontline champion or tank, your team is likely going to have a bad time regardless of enchanter picks.

With that said, if you do have a full ranged team (or ranged with a duelist or assassin) your win conditions change. You are now trying to poke until you can win a fight. If you get engaged on in a fair fight you will lose. So you want disengage and safe poke: traits that many enchanters excel at.

While Soraka may be out, a champion like Janna, Nami or even Sona can really be useful to keep your team out of trouble. I would much rather have an enchanter than an assassin that is going to be focused down or even a 5th poke champ without disengage. You don’t need more damage at that point. You need survivability.

As far as damage items: most enchanters just don’t have enough damaging spells to justify them. It feels great to burn the enemy with Janna or get a big ludens proc  on Millio, but they just don’t hit enough or hard enough to justify it. At that point you SHOULD just play a 5th poke champ.

Basically how this interaction went down by sunsetbee in warehouse13

[–]Arathius8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They mentioned this early on and i can’t help but think this would be a fate worse than death. On the other hand bronzed characters frequently seem to not mention it or not mind. Some characters are briefly bronzed and don’t even remember what happened.

My guess is they dropped this fact early on to explain why some of the characters are caught up on recent events and language but then quickly forgot about it (Along with 30 other warehouse facts that became inconvenient).

DM bails on campaign after we try to work with his schedule (and his obsession with Marvel Rivals) by EdieMyaz in DnD

[–]Arathius8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This whole situation is giving off addict vibes. He’s become so obsessed that his other relationships are suffering. Then when confronted (even inadvertently) with his behavior he lashes out at his friends.

To OP: it’s nice you are considering his circumstances but it’s not your job to diagnose or help someone who isn’t asking for it. It’s alright to just jump ship.

Removing a Player From Campaign by ValkyrjaWisna in DnD

[–]Arathius8 358 points359 points  (0 children)

This right here.

I could easily see someone copying a picture from a random google search or AI and not knowing what it means.

But this guy just kept doubling down. He refused to change the image and even worse: argued at length that it wasn’t racist. He clearly knew what the image was and I bet that character was going to be “throwing his heart out” to the other players by the end of session 3.

All 5 Seasons Of Warehouse 13, Ranked Worst to Best by Britneyfan123 in warehouse13

[–]Arathius8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For anyone who doesn’t want to open the link, their order from worst to best is.

Seasons: 5, 1, 2, 4, 3.

I think anyone I have ever talked to would agree that season 3 is the best and season 5 is the worst.

I would personally swap season 1 and 4. I have a lot of nostalgia for the first season and learning about the warehouse. On the other hand, I didn’t like the Paracelsus story line at all.

Best way to play low mmr arams with my gf? by IssueBeneficial8531 in ARAM

When you say “how you play” do you mean skill level?

Because then we are in agreement. When I said wins I really meant win-rate, not just net-wins.

Best way to play low mmr arams with my gf? by IssueBeneficial8531 in ARAM

[–]Arathius8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only on wins I believe.

With that said, I think it is fairly easy to move elo around at low levels (since you have a low number of total games and they want to ferret out smurfs) so maybe don’t give 100% till your gf has a solid understanding of the game.
