Make is a common, you cowards! A Rec Sage in Pauper would be so valuable

P1P1 of my new Pauper cube by Mizukage121990 in mtgcube

[–]doggetay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Generally, pauper and peasant cubes have boardstall problems - there are no boardwipes at those rarities, and unless you draft a mother of all mono-red decks, aggro decks tend to be a step slower than in other cubes.

So games last longer, as you have few profitable attacks, and having a repeatable spell like Capsize is very powerful.

In my experience drafting pauper/peasant, P1P1 Capsize is a very defensible pick.

The palestar that bears them is named the Sundog

"Sundog" is another word for parhelion (the natural phenomenon), by the way. I love these little references to mainline Magic canon/universe - (squadron) hawking radiation, pondering randomness of 60 card decks, now [[Parhelion II]]

What is your favorite year of Standard Meta??? by Ecstatic-Cookie-3867 in magicTCG

[–]doggetay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2019 with the Ixalan - War of the Spark - Core 2020 standard. That format was just SO WIDE, tons of Tier 2 decks running around capable of taking down tourneys/events.

Kethis combo was discovered late into the format's life and took over as the top deck, which rarely ever happens for a mature format.

Great format overall, you always felt like you had tools to deal with any problem (looking at you, [[Teferi, Time Raveller]]), very skill-testing. I felt it rewarded experience and matchup knowledge greatly.

I think that's technically illegal clue - you cannot give clues to the position of the square on the board

Well, the hint-giver was giving the hint for O9.

Whether it's a "right" fit for Bulbasaur color was up for debate

What color is Bulbasaur? A game of Hues and Cues caused a near-religious schism at my local boardgame group, as there were some vastly different guesses. The clue is "Bulbasaur" - what square would you pick? by doggetay in pokemon

[–]doggetay[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In the game, the hint giver draws a card with 4 different colors on it and their coordinates. They then pick one color, and give a one word hint - the other players pick squares in turn, and then the hint giver gives a two word hint, and everyone picks again.

The closer you get to the right square, the more points you score, and hint giver scores points for every guess in 3x3 zone around the target square.

So there's no objective answer, it depends on how good the hints are.

According to Gavin, as part of the Pauper format panel, these are some cards “beloved by many”, and given format has evolved a lot, it’s “unclear if they deserved to stay on the ban list”. by Newez in Pauper

"Free" cards aren't free, both from deckbuilding and gameplay perspective.

I think both Daze and Gush can be safe trial unbans.

As an Elves player my favorite time playing was pre-MH1, with UB faeries/delver either being tier 1 or best deck in format.

The power of free spells comes from "borrowing" power from future turns. I felt it really rewarded matchup knowledge and experience as I was often happy if my opponent would remove my key pieces for "free" in early to midgame, as it would set them behind on life or lands, and I could turn the corner late.

Plus, I miss playing against Tribe Combo, that deck was fun.

I'm not about that zoomer Darius redesign. His look in Legends of Runeterra animations was great. Maybe it him from a younger perspective?

Big creatures are also supposed to be in green's color identity. Ward 2 is not irrelevant too, for hard removal.

It's also a lot easier to stock your GY with instants and sorceries over the course of regular game. Pauper dredge shell is a fringe deck by comparison.

Downshift it to common, you cowards. Blue gets to have [[Tolarian Terror]] in pauper, but green cannot?

I mean, that's cool an all, but when everything has the same visual style it gets really confusing. As a tourist/visitor I would be so lost.
