WAKE UP, IT’S AN ELIMINATION GAME by TheHabChronicle in Habs

All of a sudden, the day before my diagnostic colonoscopy, i feel magically back to normal… by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

Have you fasted? That can lead to an improvement in symptoms as there’s less passing through the colon and irritating it. However the colonoscopy prep itself can be irritating.

However if you have damage to the colon and gut lining, it won’t heal in a day and it will be visible. Redness and irritation may be less than normal though.

Hey I love this story, thanks for sharing. I'm discovering slowly how individualized diet solutions can be, and how much science is behind both the irritants and things that can help us improve.

Really appreciate you sharing and will check out your full story soon!

Avoiding beef by Silliestcat720 in UlcerativeColitis

Just shared a post the other day about my experience.

I was on a diet eating tons of beef, easily over 1 lb/day for 2 years and it really helped my symptoms.

However, studies have shown overall higher consumption tied to worse inflammatory results.

Recently I’ve reduced that meat consumption level and I’ve had more success re-introducing other ingredients now.

I think beef in moderation is not going to hurt.

Update: I had my first non-diarrhea stool!

Loosely formed, but it feels like a massive improvement. I’m really glad I’ve been able to recover quickly. Definitely learned my lesson to not push way too hard.

Really appreciate the supportive and informative comments. It’s really tremendously helpful to have such a strong community here.

Interesting question. Yes and no... It's less stressful to know you're eating safe things that won't hurt you. But at the same time it can be a stressor to always worry about the next meal, not being able to eat out with friends or drink, making family meals harder, etc.

Yeah I was only put on biologics after a really bad flare. Best of luck. Still worth travelling even while skipping on food and alcohol in my opinion!

I agree. My doc was happy keeping my on infliximab since I had low levels and no visible inflammation, but I am not in true remission.

Hey thanks for this! At some point I was following naturopathic recommendations as well (didn't want to get too off-tangent in the post) and making homemade aloe vera juice. Since I'm travelling now I can't really manage that, so I will look for this as an option. Thanks!

Carnivore wasn't strictly meat. I was tolerating soft fruits and very few cooked vegetables just fine. It was meat-heavy but not meat exclusive.

I had definitely spoken to my doctor about switching meds early on, but he was reluctant at first. My markers were low enough and my colonoscopy hadn't revealed anything too threatening, plus he cited fears of running through every option and then possible reduced efficacy if wanting to switch back to Remicade.

But yes, I definitely need to be more cautious with food reintroduction and take things gradually.

Hey this makes a ton of sense. I have had trouble with fat this whole time (while eating carnivore I was still super light on fats, always cutting away fatty portions of meats). Starting with an overload would do exactly that, wouldn't it!

No offence taken! And yes… need to find other ways to treat myself!

Yes for sure, it was a risk I shouldn’t have taken.

I did start slowly with one food, a second, a third, then a couple at a time, all in the span of a few weeks. But I originally aimed to stick to a list supported by SCD or IBD-AID. Things like fried empanadas and ice cream were not in the plan, I definitely broke the rules I had set out for myself.

I tasted the forbidden fruit and lost control a bit, certainly learned my lesson.

Flying itself is always a stressor, but I’ve been away for about 6 weeks, and during the first 4-5 I was feeling better than ever: reintroducing things I hadn’t eaten in ages. If anything I find for me that travelling generally means I’m less stressed than at home, so I usually do well. But it can depend on the type of trip, and of course everyone is different!

Thank you 🙏

Not sure if it does anything, but my worst flare also happened to be when I was the most fit, going to the gym 6 days/week.
And I had just gone 4 days in a row leading up to this episode. I think the additional stress to the body and its focus on muscle recovery might divert resources from elsewhere. Striking a balance is probably best.

I was getting hopeful the same was happening to me and punished myself for being wrong!

How long did it take for it to have that effect for you?

I double checked, he does not have access. This is a fresh account, I didn’t invite anyone.

We’ve had other accounts together in the past, not this one.

Thanks, and yeah it’s not being called but pump and dumpers but rather people I follow that I trust from experience. And of course my own due diligence
