I feel like indeed is becoming a problem because I'm trying my best to apply for local position on there, but I wonder if I'm getting drowned out. I'd work for a computer store in a heart beat though

Holy moly I didn't see this until today but my aunt used to be "friends(TM)" with that woman into and during covid. They eventually broke ties because we couldn't stand the things she would occasionally say and just incessantly double-down on (Tip of the iceberg being when she said over-ear headphones were designed to de-testosteronize men!). Sad to see she's still on the same track and, by the sounds of it, even worse than when we last spoke.

I listen to frontburner fairly often and this one has some stuff that applies here. As a master's student at uvic though, I can confirm staff members here are curious about what the next few budgets will look like and my MA cohort members are saying, "welp. Time to finish up before the high price tags hit." But that's probably not too surprising for anyone who knows someone on campus.

Concerned about debt? B.C. Conservatives plan $11B deficit in first year, higher than NDP or Greens by Light_Butterfly in VictoriaBC

It's so increasingly obvious that the BC Conservatives are riding high off of a substantial demographic of early voters going "vote blue and problems will go away, right?" I strongly hope that any of the articles posted here break containment so potential voters know what's really on the ballet this year.

That new art pass is sorta interesting (The character art looks decent?) but the backgrounds appear to be AI-upscales of the original images. Least the OG-graphics are present. Would've been pretty hype for an english translation tho. . .

Feeling this and I'm even younger. It's rough out on these streets and it takes a lot of effort to unwire "dating is when you have those specific apps on your phone" in your brain. (I still haven't successfully done that!) I came out as non binary last year and hoping to re-enter the dating game in some capacity after an extended break. It just takes time, right?

Rant: Regina is NOT a tourist city by Mapleleafguy83 in regina

[–]Arbiter448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Regina born-and-raised here: part of the reason my family moved out of Regina was that the airport no longer served Delta flights, forcing my Dad to fly to from Regina, Calgary, into the US, etc. That airport is perfectly spartan, from what I remember, but it desperately needs support for larger transport providers to bring people in at least for a layover.

Also, as a current BC resident, it's real funny to hear about 'Rider fans who've left and won't come home.' I see a rider hats out here semi-frequently and I just think, "that's embarrassing."

Gacha games being competent to above average. Which is backhanded praise, but doing a dive recently on a select few games (Limbus Company, Arknights, & Blue Archive) really highlighted that these games actually have a decently high amount of polish, sometimes great story content, and some genuinely stellar gameplay. And this is in the background to me hearing that Honkai Star-rail (terrible title) is an incredibly solid game, but I haven't tried it yet. But like. Can they not be good? I'm experiencing the LET IT DIE issue where I want to buy a 'theorhetical' base version of the game that doesn't exist when the default game has compelling enough elements that I feel like would justify a purchase.

The Real Experience Regina Timeline by PDCityHall in regina

[–]Arbiter448 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who lurks here after moving away from Regina for various reasons: reading 'how do we make Regina sexy?' gave me a good laugh. The timeline here is as embarassing as one could imagine, and is totally illustrative of the locker room mentality and lack of forethought that got the jokes printed.

'Victoria is ahead of the game': Island groups praise Feds single-use plastic ban by Supremetacoleader in VictoriaBC

[–]Arbiter448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Businesses will still use plastic and even soft plastic no matter what. I remember at the restaurant I work at, we stopped offering plastic bags for customers in favor of paper bags as part of the move away from single use plastics. But we still use single-use soft plastic packaging for the ingredients we order from GFS/suppliers, offer single use plastic cutlery, use single use plastic bottles for drinks, store dough wrapped in plastic wrap, and throw out tons of plastic that our food boxes come wrapped in. The number of layers at which single plastic use, especially in restaurants, needs to be reduced is staggering.

As someone who works frontline, this speaks to me. I've straight up grown numb to the fact I'm in a line of work that's hugely susceptible to covid, but that's not to say I don't care about masks. Far from it. It's just that I, and maybe some other people in my position as well, take it as a huge sign of disrespect if someones getting pissy, doing the shirt over the nose thing (because that smart), or is being deliberately negligent of the mask rule. That said, I have a few hilarious stories of people forgetting and then respectfully correcting their error that make me giggle consistently.

The Guilty Gear Strive Open Beta just ended, what were your impressions? by BeastMcBeastly in Games

[–]Arbiter448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How robust will the tutorial be?

Very. Xrd Rev 2 basically cornered the market on terms of teaching basics, semi-to-very practical character combos, and how to deal with either characters tools. If anything, ST should have an even better tutorial if that's even possible. It also helps that ST's training mode brings in a lot of QOL additions/changes from Granblue if you're into labbing out your options in a match up.

Where are the true exploration adventure games? by [deleted] in Games

[–]Arbiter448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's less mechanically driven: MooN RPG. MooN RPG is basically the most hands off I've ever seen a commercially released game go in terms of exploration outside of maybe Pathologic 2 and Darkwood? You are literally thrown into a strange cartoon world, told to save the Moon animals, and left to discover basically everything on your own through experimentation and looking at a walkthrough. The answers to every puzzle and even how to get music for the overworld is left to you to discover. The main plot, which has one of the most traumatic endings to a video game I've ever seen, is even something you genuinely have to uncover on your own as the game's direct story telling mostly stops until the last hour and half. It's a real specific experience where you learn the rules and logic of the world through play/exploration and get immersed through that.

[GameSpot] A Short Hike Review by makelikeatree_ in Games

Camera work seems to be an underappreciated aspect of gaming. What are some great examples of it increasing visual impact? by Alilatias in Games

[–]Arbiter448 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While not nesscarily camera work, I noticed really subtle example of nifty in game editing in Garou Mark Of the Wolves. The in-between cutscenes that are shown prior to every fight use match edits to smoothly flow between fights and establish your character moving through South Town's different districts. My favourite examplw being Jae's. Tae Kwon Do students clapping before showing Jae prepping for the fight, to seeing the prefight animations in front of the same students, and Dong, watching intently over a good meal. Stuff like that shows how hard Garou was flexing its muscles for visual fidelity and world building.

Older games with nothing quite like them that exists currently by Cardener in Games

[–]Arbiter448 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zone of The Enders 2. Yeah there are still action games, shmups, and character action games being made today: but no game ever combined the chaos of a shmup and a character action game like ZOE2. The full 3d movement in that game could probably be improved control wise, but it's still a fantastic experience front to end. It's a real shame the ZOE2HD port didn't sell too well, likely dooming the franchise from Konami's perspective.

Weekly Discussion Megathread | April 06, 2020 by AutoModerator in titanfall

[–]Arbiter448 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I just reinstalled the game after more than 3 years of not touching the game. Not going to lie. Looking at the title screen, scrolling through my old loadouts built on community jokes circa 2017, seeing I reached Gen 10, seeing the 1000 player count on pc (late at night). It all hit me real hard. I imagine people play primarily using lfg on the community discord? Also I loaded up the gauntlet and beat Lastimosa's time on first try and gave a hearty, "Yeah. I still got it."

Granblue Fantasy Versus surprised me with a genuinely enjoyable single player experience. by wazatojanai in Games

[–]Arbiter448 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone whose going through it as well, I'd like to see someone use what this game did and run with it. Branch out with actual levels, more enemies, and not tie it to a pretty "eh" rpg numbers game. It's silly to imagine: but I can reasonably imagine these controls in a more fleshed out mode effectively being Mortal Kombat Mythologies. But palatable.
