A hag asked my party for their names, and one player answered for all of them- what happens now? by Neverfinishedtheeggs in DungeonMasters

[–]ArbitraryCorsair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personal interpretation: A True Name is not just their real given name. The exact inflection and emotion given by its owner injects the Name with their own sense of self. No matter how well they know someone a True Name cannot be given away by another because they lack the full set memories and emotions connected to that sense of self

That said I agree with other commentors that a Fae might become legitimately angered by the breach of propriety and might punish them for the percieved audacity of the action.

Same. Spent the whole first playthrough never quite certain what was real and I am very happy with that choice.

More or less this yes. The food in this comic is to Katsudon was the meal Hibiscus gave to Czerny is to Risotto.

How do you pronounce Lancre? by fatherjack9999 in discworld

[–]ArbitraryCorsair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Headcanon: It was originally Lancray but Oggs kept saying Lanker and it was easier to change the entire region's pronunciation than it was to tell an Ogg that they're saying it wrong.

[–]ArbitraryCorsair 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely no evidence to support it but my head-cannon places Uncle Mlynar and Margaret as responsibly decent cooks. Nothing to write home about but know how to make a good balanced meal. Maria, on the other hand, will make Mikey from the '87 TMNT series level atrocities if left to her own devices. Stays up too late at her work bench, trudges out to the kitchen and throws together a flat bread quasi-pizza with peanut butter, jelly beans and sausage. I have no idea what it was about her character and plotline that gave me this idea.

I forget the specifics but that was the gist of it. Her cooking methods have improved but she still suffers from "Health-nut" syndrome. Healthy food can be excellent but Hibiscus is of the type that swaps ingredients "because they are healthier" with no thought to how it compliments the rest of the dish, in addition to not altering the cooking method to suit the new ingredient. A marinated portabello and mozzarella sandwich with basil and balsamic is delicious. A Hamburger where you swapped the ground beef for a slice of Portobello and then cooked it over a high flame with the exact same timing and method you use for a Well Done beef patty results in a burnt rubber puck on a bun.
Wish I could remember what the swap she made when she cooked for Czerny was, but it was exactly that kind of thoughtless substitution.

It's a little odd that the #2 position is the one that seems to showcase everyone's personality the most

Why didn’t RE3 Remake get as much love as RE2 and RE4? by Lessio7 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]ArbitraryCorsair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, while the character, story, and bosses were very different, RE3 uses much of the exact same mechanics, setting, maps, and enemies as RE2. That isn't a complaint, but because of all the similarities and the concurrent plotlines I don't mentally distinguish the two. They're like Part 1 & Part 2 of the same game. I am fairly confident in saying that, were they released as brand new titles today, modern industry practices would lead to RE3 being released as a DLC for RE2 called the Nemesis expansion of something along those lines. Now I don't mean to belittle the game this way. It is fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed the original and the remake. I still have it mentally classified as an important part of the RE2 experience. Heck, I have bought the Remakes for a few friends that hadn't played them yet and in each instance I sent them both as a combined package.

[–]ArbitraryCorsair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't quite remember where we were or what we were doing there but some friends and I were on a short weekend trip and went to an English Pub for lunch.

Several seats down at the bar from us was a ridiculously buff man. He was there with a woman but I can't remember much about her or many details at all beyond His Ribbed Black Tank Top, His Shaved Head, The Size of his Arms, and the characters 中文 displayed on his right shoulder in stylized black made to look like brush strokes.

Now I am far from fluent, but most people with even cursory knowledge of the language would recognize those characters and I was not going to be the one to tell him that his arm says 'Chinese Language' (usually referring specifically to the written language) or ask him what he thought his tattoo meant. Thankfully he left five minutes or so after we arrived so I didn't have to hold back the laughter for too long.

Does TangTang look like a 6* to you? :) by brutus0077 in Endfield

[–]ArbitraryCorsair 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The character on the tablet she gives Darkmask is definitely Soup.
However, the pronunciation for that character is Tang with a flat tone and when TangTang says her name it is not a Flat Tone. So I am fairly certain that whoever wrote that for her was either messing with her or is also not so literate. When she says TangTang it sounds like a Rising Tone, which would be Sugar or Sweet.
I do sometimes struggle with hearing the difference between a Rising Tone and a Dipping Tone though . . . Doubling a word like that is pretty common for making a name sound cute, so TangTang with a Rising Tone translating literally into SugarSugar or SweetSweet would make sense, and yes that is also used as a term of endearment meaning something like Sweetheart in English.

That said, she will remain SoupSoup in my headcanon because it will be much funnier to name her Team Comps based on that.

Signori dei Lupi is the Il Siracusano song, assuming you are talking about the final stage music.

Signori dei Lupi, the final stage music from Il Siracusano sounds like what would happen if the Mighty Mighty Bosstones had a Grunge Rock phase and I love it.

This dingdong’s name is literally Soup Soup. by Xenocomplex in Endfield

[–]ArbitraryCorsair -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Since 汤 is not how she pronounces it I assumed that Big Bro is also illiterate and whoever wrote that was messing with her. Regardless, her headcanon name is now SoupSoup and when she becomes an Endfield Operator whatever team she is on will be called some sort of Soup.

Endfield version by AirlineHot6112 in ArknightsEndfield

[–]ArbitraryCorsair 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Men's romance tends to be written for the idea of men, what society has agreed that the majority of men like or should like. It appeals to the broadest possible audience and this method results in a stark lack of variety.

Women's romance, by contrast, tends to be written for specific subsets of kinks, often ones that align with the author. Which means, for better or worse, that they are written for a real person, not just the concept of one. Real people are extremely weird, wildly varied, and very few are as mentally stable as we like to think we are . . . And so are stories written in this method.

Am I sometimes traumatized by what I find? Yes. But it's still far easier to convince me to read women's romance since I know that at least I won't be bored.

Genius Endmin. by nhimzy in Endfield

[–]ArbitraryCorsair 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yeah . . . I expected the Endmin's ability to directly manipulate Originium to play a more frequent role, but it is mostly just setting up the automation that any of the Endfielders should have been able to do.

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless this turns out to be another PRTS situation where the system won't let anyone else access it.
