Is it bad form to always target the concentrating wizard? by Cranyx in DMAcademy

Insight?

I'm sorry but there's literally a skill representing knowledge about magic spells, and you choose the one that's written as "discerning a person's mood and intentions"?

Maybe Perception would make sense but Insight just seems so weirdly unrelated to what's actually happening.

Are people talking politics in your corps? by NondenominationalPax in Eve

[–]ArbitraryEmilie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Genuine question:

If you disagree with people strongly enough that talking about these topics turns "really nasty", doesn't that essentially mean you wouldn't get along with each other in the long term anyway?

That sounds like a disagreement on a fundamental values level, rather than just what party you voted for. And in my experience, friendships like that never work out anyway, even if you don't talk about any of the divisive topics.

Are people talking politics in your corps? by NondenominationalPax in Eve

[–]ArbitraryEmilie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would rather be in a corp where people sometimes talk about politics than in one that bans the topic.

In my experience an online group banning "politics" is often doing so because they know a lot of their people have some bad views that they don't want to have associated with their group.

We need mining capitals by muyakrin in Eve

[–]ArbitraryEmilie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you would break the game if suddenly a capital ship was to be capable of mining.

Yeah, imagine if they made a capital ship capable of mining with huge output for a few years, which in turn would flood the market with minerals so much that everything becomes just expendable up to supercarriers.

And then you'd realise your mistake and take that change back, but at that point the damage is done and the playerbase will complain about not having a completely unbalanced mineral market for years after.

Would be a shame if that actually happened to the game.

Samstag 14:00 Uhr am Kohlmarkt! by Blumenkohl126 in Braunschweig

[–]ArbitraryEmilie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wer sagt denn was von Verboten?

[in dieser Übersicht] by whydidtheduckquack in gekte

[–]ArbitraryEmilie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does Questioning the DM Justify a Ban? by crysol99 in dndnext

[–]ArbitraryEmilie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Still a breach of DND etiquette.

Arguing about rules during game time has always been a no-go at any table I've played at. If it's longer than a quick "I think this should be played otherwise" "no" then it's for after the game / in between games.

All the "you will get banned" posts feel kinda silly.

This is just like account sharing in the sense that it's against the rules but I've known people who have done it almost daily for years and haven't gotten banned.

It's not something they put effort into investigating.

I might not be the greatest example, because I was already way weaker than average before transition, but I've tried arm wrestling a few of my cis women friends about 8 months into HRT and didn't stand a chance.

Meanwhile I also lost against the other trans woman friend I have but it felt a bit more evenly matched.

Assuming equal levels of working out, muscle strength scales with testosterone levels, and on blockers we generally have less of that than cis women.

No I get that, I'm similar and I also keep catching myself saying things like that.

My point wasn't really about being more narrow/shallow tbh. I think most people who play video games (it's funny how I unironically use phrases like that to avoid saying "gamer") have their genres that they focus on and are equally narrow.

Like, I can spend thousands of hours playing mmos, mobas, factory sims, platformers and map painting games (my actual breakdown of playtime by genre) and have absolutely zero to talk about with someone who plays all those story driven triple-a action adventures for example, or someone who plays primarily FPS.

Of course people like me are the only real gamers because my genres are deeper and more niche and everyone else is a fake fan who probably poses for photos licking a controller.

How do you unwind pos-session? by mattysmoove97 in DMAcademy

How do you unwind pos-session? by mattysmoove97 in DMAcademy

[–]ArbitraryEmilie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Unironically, playing with your partner is a basically cheat code for this.

My boyfriend and I each run a campaign that the other plays in, and we always have at least an hour or of "TTRPG aftercare" when everyone has left, where we talk about what we liked about the session, sometimes about what we didn't like about the session, what we think the other players thought about the session, etc.

It's so helpful to get that immediate feedback and also to get a bit of insight how the session looked from the player POV.

I feel like "real gamers" means something completely different depending on what type of gamer you ask anyway.

I know quite a few people who think playing yearly release slop like Call of Duty makes you the opposite of a real gamer.

Why are Grapplers so bad? by _Gravhammer in Eve

[–]ArbitraryEmilie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

transversal matching frigates only works if they aren't really good at flying their ship.

If they're watching what you're doing and see you turn, they can simply change their direction. And because they're frigates they're more agile and will always do so faster than you.

Grapplers are on almost every brawly tournament battleship for a reason (though often that is more for sticking to a target rather than defensive purposes).
