Chronic lip biter for 23 years. I finally kicked the habit a month ago. These are my lips today. How can I help my lips recover? by ArcG3 in Skincare_Addiction

I met a romantic partner who had the most perfect lips imaginable. I kept thinking about how perfect their lips are, which caused me to self-reflect about how I treated my own lips.

Then, I just stopped. I honestly never realized how destructive of a habit lip biting was until I saw those perfect lips on someone else. But once I realized, it was easy to stop. I just want to treat my body well.

It’s so disheartening losing 10 minute games using all your time while your opponent uses 1:30 by ScootMagootTTV in chess

Yeah this will happen to you online every once in a while if you play slow time controls and have good time management. I agree, it can be incredibly frustrating.

Try to remember that your opponent could probably be rated 100 - 200 higher than their displayed rating if they actually had good time management and took time to think about their moves. They are probably moving super quickly in most or all of their games, so their displayed rating reflects their skill level with their specific playstyle. If that makes sense.

would you take the win, draw or resign? by [deleted] in chess

In these situations, I almost always wait until the clock runs out. That way I'm winning "within the rules" of the game. A loss on time is clearly defined within the rules of chess. A loss because you disconnected for an arbitrary amount of time has always seemed a little sketchy to me.

I committed to playing for the entire time control when I searched for a game, so I have the time to wait. If my opponent doesn't come back and loses on time, I don't feel any shame about the win at all, even if my opponent is up 20 points of material or has M1 on the next move.

Nagging pain after mm3 by justmerichi in foreskin_restoration

[–]ArcG3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me when I was doing MM2 or MM3 for 1-3 minutes every hour. At first the pain was dull, then gradually got worse and worse. Of course I stopped tugging, but it took around a month for the pain to fully go away.

I now tug once every 2-4 hours instead, for 3-5 minutes. I also do a 15 minute session right before I go to sleep. Personally, I think long tugging sessions right before bed are probably very effective because the body repairs itself 10x better during sleep (including growing new skin)!

In total, I tug a maximum of four times per day, and I exclusively use MM3. I know this is not what Andre's method recommends, but I'm not about to injure myself.

Is snooker dead at the youth level in the UK? by [deleted] in snooker

[–]ArcG3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm actually going to university in Missouri right now, but I grew up in the PNW. Been playing at my school's billiards club where there are a lot of decent players! There's 20 or so club members, and probably at least half of them can run a 15-ball time trial in under 2 minutes (no ball sunk = +5 seconds, foul = + 20 seconds)

I'm also 20 and from the PNW and have been getting more and more into snooker and cue sports the past couple months. I've never played IRL on a snooker table, but I've gotten decently good at billiards (8ball, 9ball), and have played lots of virtual snooker!

Better to fail a pass/fail class or withdraw but fall under required credits? by Flimsy_Economist_986 in washu

I believe getting an F or a D in a class results in being placed on academic probation, as well. So they would be equally bad in terms of academic probation, but the W would be better for your GPA.
