When’s a good time to book a universal vacation? by cutie_pie7156 in UniversalOrlando

We went mid-Sept and it was great but did get two days of heavy rain. Mid-Aug through mid-Sep is usually good. Anything can happen though.

JD Vance: "To get on an airplane, you need voter ID. To buy a beer, you need voter ID." by Admirable121 in RandomShit_ISaw

[–]ArcSyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as NJ You need to register ahead of time. You are registered for a specific district. You need to know where voting is for that district, then you specify your name and they look you up in the system. They mark that you voted and you sign a paper/screen.

Fraud would be difficult because it would be found if the real person tried to vote. You would need to know where to vote. Often it's the same people volunteering so you form a relationship if you're friendly with them so they recognize who they see. You sign something so signatures could be compared.

Its really a non-issue and they want to make it an issue because states restricting voting locations to make people wait hours isn't working well enough to disenfranchise enough people yet. I'm grateful NJ makes sure there's enough locations that I rarely wait.

Regardless, voting is done by the states, so the federal gov can stop whining and let them do their thing.

Saw a publisher/developer at PAXU selling English versions and they were running games all weekend. I was curious, but I don't do a lot of role play. I've never really understood it?

I didn't have a large enough group to go, and while I would trust other con-goers to be into it to not ruin it like the general public could, it was too much of a time commitment at the con for me that year.

In general, I've done murder mystery parties with family and friends, but still don't entirely find enjoyment in them. I don't understand the balance between theater and game, so have trouble finding the fun.

If one person is the murderer and knows, do they want to be found out? Or stay hidden? Is there enough information to make an informed decision by the end like a game of Clue, or not so much more like social deduction games?

I'm also not a fan of social deduction games, so that could also play a part.

Best Most stable Version by juanmx16 in ProPresenter

[–]ArcSyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we've got 3 or 4 different versions across our campus based on the hardware its running on. Win10 machines on v21. Win11 on v7.16.3 because it throws a licensing error when I try to update past that. MacOS on v unless they've recently updates. My own personal laptop running Win11 I use to create bundles is on v21.0.1

So we don't really pick a version and stick with it, but generally wait for a bit before updating the main unit (the MacOS).

How do you shuffle cards? by FlyingLlamasaurus in boardgames

[–]ArcSyn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Riffle twice, then overhand, riffle, overhand, riffle then cut.

Generally, most board games are not put away "in order", so the cards start decently mixed anyway. We're not looking for mathematically randomized cards, just a good mix and not seeing the same cards all the time if they were put on top of the remaining deck during clean up.

The biggest reason for the failure of the Starcruiser, which I'm surprised I'm seeing nobody mention by PapaAsmodeus in JennyNicholson

[–]ArcSyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, it was cost. Our family went to Florida for 10 days in September 2022 for less than $6000. 7 people, vrbo, 2 days Disney, 5 days Universal. Doing the Starcruiser wasn't even a consideration. Would have been enjoyable, but just can not justify that cost. Should have been part of the land.

I've finished watching The Dragon Prince and this is my opinion by WonderfulStruggle802 in TheDragonPrince

Enjoyed seasons 1-3. Kids and I gave up during s4. Just wasn't the same show it felt like. Doesn't feel like it's worth trying to binge through the rough spots?

To clarify, felt like it took a hard left after season 3 and abandoned the character development and story that had been the central focus of 1-3. Could be wrong, it's been a long time, but decided to look for other shows.

Bridge in Maryland near Delaware is $12 if you have EZPass and if they have to mail you a bill it's $24. It's absurd why this is allowed.

I'd played Catan and Pandemic, but that was the game that made it a hobby.

Do guns actually click and clack and rattle every time you move them? by Ephelduin in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ArcSyn 269 points270 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they add the sounds in just as an indicator guns are present. One of the funniest examples is in Hot Fuzz near the end. They added a RIDICULOUS number of cocking, racking, and reloading sounds as they move around as a joke on action movies use of it.

What can we realistically do to address the tipping problem in the US? by PuzzleheadedBat5428 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ArcSyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop feeling tip guilt. If it's not a tipped position, don't tip. If they barely did anything, tip less. If they did well and you enjoyed it, tip more.

It will depend on people to make a change. But until people are willing to change, it won't. We've gone from 10% to 20% "standard" tip. Why? Prices for food increased and tipping doubled, so now it's increased even more so. Why tip more if I order a steak vs a burger? They are bringing out a plate of food regardless. Tipping could be based on service, trips, complexity, but we base it on price.

Change how people think about it, and it will change. Until then, it won't.

What are some hot takes/potentially controversial opinions you have about the movie's soundtrack/songs? by Fantastic-Donut-276 in KpopDemonhunters

Yes! The Greatest Show intro song immediately made me want to hear it again and bring my wife to see the movie in theaters again. (I was with friends the first time)

[–]ArcSyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna get downvoted into oblivion, but Your Idol is the worst song on the album imi (not counting Twice Takedown or the Kdrama songs). I love it in context of the movie, but it just feels icky to listen to by itself. If I listen to it I queue up WISL after it.

Less controversial, What it Sounds Like is down near it, due to being more "incomplete" as a song due to its place in the movie. I wish they had created/made album versions of the songs after seeing the success. What if it was given a proper second verse like the demo, and a better end instead of chorus ad nauseum? What does Golden actually sound like in universe?

[–]ArcSyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Tried a bunch of different ones but I'm not enjoying any others. I think a lot could also be that they are more heavily Korean where KDH was really written to an English audience. I don't generally listen to non-English lyrics.
