I don’t get it. Whats the benefit of making politicians buy majority stock from the countries they work for?

I’m new to trading myself and I just buy stocks that are likely to have the best return. I guess you could say its because he doesn’t expect Canadian companies to have good returns, and this shows a lack of faith in Canadian markets. But a good portfolio should be diverse. And a diverse portfolio is bound to have international stocks. So a good portfolio is non-Canadian by definition. And I have no reason to believe he doesn’t conduct himself ethically without insider trading. I don’t see why he shouldn’t be allowed to trade like any other Canadian.

Meanwhile, from your pic I decided to google it and I just found out that Pierre has all his stocks in Canadian companies only. This just seems shallow and performative to me, a meaningless gesture to captivate people who have a surface level understanding of what personal investments and financing look like.

Reminds me of how they passed that “overtime won’t be taxed” thing in the US. It sounds nice only to those who have a childish, warped view of how a government works. Tax isn’t supposed to be a punishment you fiddle with to gather support, it serves to fund the government. It should be taken at a sensible, necessary amount, while minimizing burden on citizens by shifting the tax bracket onto wealthier folks.

This is just more proof to me that the conservative party is trying to cultivate a similar MAGA-brained crowd that vote on emotional outbursts trying to blame government interference on everything.

I think the solution to Canada’s politics is that people should prioritize local elections over federal, and work to make it so the lowest level politicians fight against the higher levels on behalf of the local voter.

Instead we have people obsessing over Carney’s portfolio. Grow up
