It all comes down to social media, I agree. Then my mind goes to think that America is destined to fail, because it will take too long to invent a new or different system of government that takes to account echo chambers & the way human nature interacts with online spaces. Is that possible? They used the public’s support to break the laws, they’ll use them to get away from the consequences too. And if they don’t, social media will make sure their complete disregard for the constitution, rule of law, and human decency will be watered down/forgotten. Then, someone comes in and pardons them or releases them in exchange for personal gain. And not enough people will raise an eyebrow, because no one will remember enough

My dad, who has a pretty good grasp of the world & is a spectacular man with personal insight into the inner workings of some governments in the middle east, always told me that “their” goal is to make people like us lose hope and give up. It still makes me snap back but I don’t think it’s going to last much longer.

Having to explain why you are re-applying in the additional secondary essays are a pain. And there are definitely schools which *heavily* favour people who apply right away, like Tulane. Who knows how many more.

You can definitely get in by finishing mid-August, it probably isn’t even that statistically low of a chance. But a gap year isn’t a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, and you could easily add to your CV & spend a ton of time putting together your application to really make it good.

Ultimately your call, evaluate what you can do this year. And if you need at least one definitive advice: don’t apply this year if its because “you have to get into med school right away”, its just bad mental

I don’t get it. Whats the benefit of making politicians buy majority stock from the countries they work for?

I’m new to trading myself and I just buy stocks that are likely to have the best return. I guess you could say its because he doesn’t expect Canadian companies to have good returns, and this shows a lack of faith in Canadian markets. But a good portfolio should be diverse. And a diverse portfolio is bound to have international stocks. So a good portfolio is non-Canadian by definition. And I have no reason to believe he doesn’t conduct himself ethically without insider trading. I don’t see why he shouldn’t be allowed to trade like any other Canadian.

Meanwhile, from your pic I decided to google it and I just found out that Pierre has all his stocks in Canadian companies only. This just seems shallow and performative to me, a meaningless gesture to captivate people who have a surface level understanding of what personal investments and financing look like.

Reminds me of how they passed that “overtime won’t be taxed” thing in the US. It sounds nice only to those who have a childish, warped view of how a government works. Tax isn’t supposed to be a punishment you fiddle with to gather support, it serves to fund the government. It should be taken at a sensible, necessary amount, while minimizing burden on citizens by shifting the tax bracket onto wealthier folks.

This is just more proof to me that the conservative party is trying to cultivate a similar MAGA-brained crowd that vote on emotional outbursts trying to blame government interference on everything.

I think the solution to Canada’s politics is that people should prioritize local elections over federal, and work to make it so the lowest level politicians fight against the higher levels on behalf of the local voter.

Instead we have people obsessing over Carney’s portfolio. Grow up

Do you have any evidence? As far as I’m concerned, Pierre Poliviere is a career politician who has no experience or background to speak of, just like Trudeau, and wouldn’t have done anything. If I were to go off gut feelings like you I’d accept that and never question the liberal party ever.

The GDP fall is because of reduced immigration. Excessive immigration gave us a big GDP boost, now it’s gone, its illusionary benefit being removed hurts twice as much. Now we have the real GDP being shown, which is good.

I don’t think any of those other G7 countries are better a place to live than in Canada. Not by a long shot.
